Re: What does your truck say about you?
Mine says I am not a conformist, I make my truck my own. I don't send it out to have others do all the work and then drive the finished product, I want the satisfaction of building it myself. And have others comment about a job well done.

Same here! That and for a beat up old truck I get way more thumbs and a few fingers on the highway than any new cars.

Re: What does your truck say about you?
Mine talks behind my back all the time...I sure hope it is saying nice things.
I think it says that this guy does what he wants (not hurting anyone else in the process). Does not think about what other people think about him. He is not "normal". Cause "normal" is broke. I was "normal"...no more. Tim

Re: What does your truck say about you?
Greenville has become somewhat of a bustling yuppie town where the majority of people now drive new hybrids and Toyotas. Most people could care less about my old truck, and probably hate that I'm "wasting gas" when they're trying to save it with their Prius I do get the occasional thumbs up, but not like when I lived in Clemson, truck got a lot of attention there.
I guess my truck says I'm wasteful

Re: What does your truck say about you?
Mine is like me in a lot of ways, it creaks and groans in the morning, mildly tempermental,, easy to get along with, seems kinda familiar to everyone, looks far from good, yet, good from far, very versitile... able to work like mad, yet very willing to take a leisurly stroll.
Mostly, it kicks ass once you get to know it's quirks... the same has been said about me. now if only we could stop leaking in our parking spots at night. (just kidding... I don't leak at night) |

Re: What does your truck say about you?
What's funny is driving my truck. Right now it's running kind of rough, I have no stereo, it has a few rattles, and it cold in the morning. But when I was working on the last group of upgrades, I missed driving it. I didn't drive it for about 4 months and it hurt.
Even when it runs like crap, it's still a pleasure to drive. The sound of the engine, the feel or the road, the look people get when it pulls up at a light (some smile, some frown, some have no idea). Yesterday I was sitting at a light, a kid (maybe 22) pulled up in a very new Subaru WRX STi with all the goodies. He looks over and revs the motor a little. You hear the blow off valve and you know he has some serious power under the hood. So I look over, grab my switch box and drop my truck, then raise it up to where I had it. He smiled, I smiled and we both cruised off happy. It was one of those moments that I love with my truck. |

Re: What does your truck say about you?
My 'lil yellow '70 reminds me of when my dad would get up early with me on Saturday mornings. We would go to the bank to cash his check and go to the parts store. He usually spoke gently to "the 'ol girl". Inevitably we found our way to the Dairy Queen for an ice cream cone or "dilly bar". Sometimes our old truck would pack the neighborhood kids together and an unorganized football game would break out. Guess it reminds me of a time when a man's word was good and our neighborhoods were a safe place to grow up. Guess I'd like to see an America like that again.
My blown '68 however is my alter ego. It snarls at cars next to it, scars old women and children, begs for race fuel instead of premium. I've pulled up to Japanese cars before and had them drop their oil plugs; leaving them "leaking in the parking lot" <quoting that age old sage - Long Horn>. I think my '68 says being different and unusual is OK; sometimes even kewl. I'm a little worried what it says to other cars - I don't think it plays well with others.

Re: What does your truck say about you?
Mine says I bite off more than I can chew often.
The reason I love the 67-72's is a lot like Rick Mills' reasons. My dad had a 72 292 and on the weekends when I'd get to hang with him we'd drive in his truck, listening to Roger Miller, or something. I love those memories. So, if my tuck was his old tuck it'd say "my uncle used to love me but she died. a chicken ain't a chicken till it's lickin good fried - deeeep on the sunny side." I wonder more about what people think about me when I drive in my Scion xB with my fedora on, blasting punk music. That's a wierd combo, IMO.

Re: What does your truck say about you?
My truck ( being pink and white) really sets it and me apart from the crowd and I like that.
I luv it cause in our lives there are so many things we just have to conform to be part of society that owning and driving a old Chevy truck shows your individuality and sets you apart from the norm.

Re: What does your truck say about you?
I don't have to tell them that since they can see we're both old and gray, but it is a pleasure to drive something that a lot of other people would love to have as well. Just about everyone respects old iron.

Re: What does your truck say about you?
Mine says I'm original, I can afford a new truck (can't everyone? "think credit"), but I prefer to drive the older stuff. It has to be nice though. Besides, joining the crowd that pays $500 to $700 a month from here to forever just does nothing for me. I was always impressed by the hard core Harley guys. For them it's not a fad, that's why their bike was nice and their vehicle was a heap. They were serious about bikes, I try to be serious about older vehicles. Not owning a new truck lets me have the freedom (cash) to work on my Stude and my 71 GMC. A way better hobby than making truck payments!

Re: What does your truck say about you?
Like other metropolitian cities every one around here drives newer stuff and mostly for the image. My truck says he doesn't care about what other people say and drives what he wants. Ironicly I work at a luxury car dealership where everyone drives fancy new stuff. I do get a kick out of watching the ocasional older gentelman walk away from a looking at a new car to check out my truck and my truck ain't much to look at right now.
