Finally got this thing back to what it looked like before I got a wild hair and decided to chop it in half. Here are some more pics.

Hey that turned out nice. I like it. Did you bolt in the braces from Early Classic?

I did bolt in the braces from ece. My only complaint from the braces is the first set was 3/16" to wide to fit in the channel and the second set was a little snug so I had to do a little grinding on them also. This thing seems very strong now though.

Yep and here's a pic! It is a SBLWB (short bed long wheel base)! It is a LWB frame with a short bed rear end

Then I finished the short bed conversion.

I think I saw a post where someone spent $500 to have this done when it was a rolling frame. Alot of factors come in on the price though. Is the truck complete or tore apart? If its complete alot would have to be done like shorten brake lines, fuel line, drive shaft, etc. This still needs to be done but when it is a frame off project it is alot easier. Another thought would be to find a shop that specializes in custom work alot of shops might run from work were the thought of cutting the frame in half is involved. Once it is shortened and a couple of cab mounts moved a short bed should bolt right on "famous last words". I will be going the "bed in a box" route. Not many clean short bed donors around here.

Looks too easy I've been planning that exact same thing; ECE boxing plates and all... Well done!

Re: lwb to swb frame chop many pics

Hey guys, sorry to bring up an older thread, but I have a quick question. I started building my 67 Crew Cab frame this weekend using this post and several others (ROKCRLN) as quidance. I basically took 2 frames (the front of a LWB/and the rear of a SWB) and cut it so I had an extra 33" between the cab mounts when I was done. I've got everything done but the installation of the ECE strengthening plates. The question I have is in regard to adding radiuses to the outside edges of the ECE stiffining plates. Would this maintain the strength/rigidity but add a bit of flexibility? I've read that these plates can cause weakenesses to the frame because they are too rigid. Maybe there's a good reason for not doing it, but I thought I would ask. Here are some pics of what I'm talking about plus some pictures of the CrewCab frame.

Re: lwb to swb frame chop many pics

That is why I did not use the C plates but flat fish plates instead. I think you are fine both ways so it comes down to personal opinion. If you are real good at welding (I am a cert welder for over 17yrs now) and trust your self that a flat plate done right is fine. If you are decent to OK at welding I would go for the C plates.
So is that your home shop or?

Shop belongs to a good friend of mine (60 X 40 with 27' semi-down draft paint boot, ). He's the one that painted the 48 and will be painting the Burb. So what do you think about radiusing the plates?

I dont think it will make a differance, but the radius would look better.
