Re: progress pic's (14 year old nephew's 68')

I don't know about any of you guys being less knowlegeable than me Most of the truck specific knowledge I have learned here. On the engine side of things I try help in areas where I have learned the hard way by not having a place like this. I have been in to wrenching since I was 13 (Racing) and I know have first hand knowlege of the importance of learning from a young age. Thanks biglou55 Respetfully RJ22

Re: progress pic's (14 year old nephew's 68')

RJ22, the real name of the truck is Dirt Dauber as we found a HUGE nest on the transfer case when taking it apart. Once it's finished and registered it'll get a tag that says DIRTDBR. Thought that was pretty appropriate for a 4x4.

His previous, almost complete restoration on another '67:

It's going for gel-ing first of next week. Then rub-rail and new motor and she'll hopefully be at the Gulf by the middle of May.

Them boys and their toys! But I'd rather him do that than sit inside playing video games all day like some of his buddies do.

Re: progress pic's (14 year old nephew's 68')

Here is an update as of yesterday and by the week-end we hope to have a rolling chassis new ball joints and the disc brakes set-up off of the parts truck that was posted about earlier in the thread.

Pic's are of:

The engine ready to go back in new bearings and fresh paint.

Frame painted and upsidedown in the pic's ready to flip back over and start installing the Disc set-up and ball joints. That is him (John) and my girlfreind (Sheila) in the one pic.

also one of the 3.73 rear new bearings and such. Sorry for the bad pic here my back is bad and I could not flip it over so I just held the camera out over where it sat a snaped the pic.

Go ahead Steven I don't mind really. but some food for thought, how old are you again? She is eight years my senior so I think that puts her 19 years up on you.

Re: progress pic's (14 year old nephew's 68')

I took it as one (a complement that is) no worries Steven. BTW thanks

He has been bugging about the V8 Thing real hard but it is staying a six for now. I will gurentee as soon as it hits the road and probably before there will be a V8 on the stand. I say he's footing the bill so let him have what he wants right. I really think since he is paying for it he will respect it when it's said and done too, so thats a good thing. I was a teenager once to though. I always had to see what was there. It did not help matters much that I was driving in a V8 super stock dirt car at 14 either.

Thank You!! ChevyDude He did mention that he gets a chance to check the site out some so he will be watching as I update the posts.

I'm thinking about paying for internet service for my brothers family so he can join up and be a member and share his thoughts also.

Money is just tight right now for him as well as I.

Cool build, kudos to you for helping him out. That six looks good, but I know all about the wanting a V8 thing. If my first Chev had been a six I might not have rolled it at 16.

Thanks, Pete! You've just convinced me the six will be staying!

Man, I wish I was building a truck when I was 14!
Nice truck and you’re lucky to have RJ to help, couldn’t have a nicer person IMO.

To give the gift of knowledge says alot about you RJ22.... he's a lucky young man indeed.

I'm sure your plan is to let him build that V8 he's craving..... every last nut, bolt, & bearing. That will teach him alot in life as well. Nothing better than understanding how the internal combustion sbc really works!

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

As for this I would not have it any other way. After the truck is done with the I6 installed. Maybe evn before it is done the whole way, He will be the one turning the wrenches on the new V8. From main cap to air cleaner nut with my guidence that is

Thank You again! Your comments are greatly appritiated!
