Yours was as original untill you cut your trunion, and the guy that you have to wonder about, but it on as original.

The gate that was on my truck when I bought it was after market. The reason that I replaced it with another after market gate is because the PO loaded a harley onto it and it caved in the gate in the centre because he could not remove the gate. This PO had juat put the gate on new 3 months before I bought the truck. I would like to see this article or what ever you have as I said before and I'll say it again I've never heard of this before.

I just had body work and paint done on my 67, and we replaced the passenger side trunion with one from an 80's Chevy Truck (exact same bolt pattern). Then we cut the notch out of the bottom of the tailgate like the new ones, and bam - no more unbolting to take of tailgate! No chances of scratching the new paint job...
