Re: The Rarest Option
I think I pitched out one of those outlet boxes a bunch of years ago, It wasn't mounted, it was just thrown in the bed of a 3/4ton parts truck I had bought. The truck also had the carpet flattend and holes in the floor board next to the seat...
I hope there not worth a mint now, I would have to scream and claw my face if so.

Re: The Rarest Option
I have NEVER seen one of these trucks that was completely rust free. So I would have to say that this would be a very rare option indeed.

Re: The Rarest Option
I think the clock went in where the vacuum guage would have gone. At least this is what it says in one of my restoration books. I saw one on a truck for sale on ebay a loooong time ago, but couldn't tell you if it was factory or not.

Re: The Rarest Option
I talked to a guy today he told me he worked @ the St louis truck plant in late 69, 70 & 71. He claimed that for 4 weeks they had him typing the sheets for the glove boxes option lists. He hated the job so bad but figured if he typed them all and made the same mistake they would move him to something else. Well he claims he typed for 6 months and when ever he was to type a "2" he made it a "Z" on the Vin #. They never caught it he claimed. Then 3 yrs ago he bought a 71 GMC L/B and driving it home a cop pulled him over checking for a stolen truck..His option sheet had a "z" instead of a "2" and didn't match his title. Long story maybe not true..but made for good conversation.

Re: The Rarest Option
Rod, I used to have a picture of a box of original SPID labels that were all connected and were tractor feed type labels that ran through a line printer. Do you have that pic? Anybody else have it?
It is the one piece of original material that I really wish I could find. It would really help clear up the myth that the labels were done 1 at a time by some guy with a typewriter. Jeff

Re: The Rarest Option
there is an older gentleman locally that did install clocks in our trucks for dealerships in the bay area. it's possible that someone purchased one back in 72 and assumed it was factory since it was installed before they took delivery of the truck.
as for rarity, i've owned and parted over 200 67-72s over the past 25 years and in that time i've had several tilts, tachs, am/fm radios, buckets, tow hooks, toolboxes, etc. of all the trucks only two had factory shoulder belts and i've had ONE 4x4 with posi front and rear-it was a 71 custom deluxe 1/2 ton and also had 16 x 6 wheels on the build sheet. i talked with the original owner and he had ordered it strictly for out of state hunting trips and he said it took 6 months to get it because he ordered the posi front axle.

Re: The Rarest Option
Rarest option/accessoryis an 8 track tape holder. It mounted to the bottom of the door. Held like 6 or 8 tapes. I saw it when i visited Chevy Duty about 6 years ago. A guy who worked the counter there had it at the store. His name was Charlie. He was/is a member here.
Thats the rarest thing i have seen.

Re: The Rarest Option
Tilt wheel with floor shift would be up there.I've only ever seen one.Seems most people who ordered floor shift went for a more basic truck.I'm guessing the ocassional "BIG BOY"farmer may have requested it for ease of entry/exit.

Re: The Rarest Option
There's a truck on E-Bay I just spied that is "fully restored perfect conditions" item # 220113037617 (69 C-10), which really shows us all what the most rare options on a fully restored vehicle really were..
"FULLY RESTORED TO ITS ORIGINAL STATE THIS TRUCK IS A REAL NICE BUY ITS READY FOR PICK UP OR WE CAN FIND YOU A CHEAP FREIGHT COMPANY THAT WILL GLADLY TAKE THIS TRUCK STRAIGHT TO YOU" Highlights of this fully restored truck's options are as follows. Accelerator Pedal Delete. Custom pre-etched upper door metal. Rust. Factory Aftermarket A/C. Steering Wheel Of the Future. Factory Clock (The one we have all been looking for with white face and roman numerals) Heater Core Hose Delete. Krylon Engine Compartment Dressing. Krylon Engine Dressing. Krylon Spark Plug Protective coating. Factory AM Stereo. Water Damaged Door Panels. Self Lifting Dash Pad. And the list goes on.. (although, it really isn't all THAT bad)

Re: The Rarest Option
I have front and rear posi on my 67. Makes snow a lot of fun. I knew it was rare, but didn't know how rare. It is the reason I don't want to sell the truck.
