Re: FOUND!!! Power steering O-ring to Flare ADAPTERS
I've seen the adapters before, but never seen the inserts. Brilliant idea. Thanks for sharing.

Re: FOUND!!! Power steering O-ring to Flare ADAPTERS
You can also search ebay for "MALE O RING TO MALE FLARE A/C ADAPTER FITTING KIT #6" and you can adapt the power steering pump from O-ring to flare.

Re: FOUND!!! Power steering O-ring to Flare ADAPTERS
I thought I heard that you can swap the whole valve assembly in the pump from one to the other.

Re: FOUND!!! Power steering O-ring to Flare ADAPTERS
What I did was cut the oring/flare off and installed inverted flare nuts and re-flared the ends. I looked at the amount of work to change out the steering gearbox compared to the re-flare. If I need to replace the hoses in the future I would have to go through this again, so I may change the steering gearbox out to the 1986 version later on so I can just purchase the '86 hoses if they need replacement. For now this works. Thanks for the links to the flare adapters.

Re: FOUND!!! Power steering O-ring to Flare ADAPTERS
Woodwright is correct about the pump. I remove the fitting in the pump and installed the flare fitting !

Re: FOUND!!! Power steering O-ring to Flare ADAPTERS
My pump was not the issue, I did the same thing. The issue was both of the fittings going to the steering box.

Re: FOUND!!! Power steering O-ring to Flare ADAPTERS
Yes the later steering boxes are different. I bought a Red Head quick steering box with the correct flare fittings when I did mine.

Re: FOUND!!! Power steering O-ring to Flare ADAPTERS
Wow, this blew up and never saw it. Speedway still sells the one insert in a previous link. I'm guessing it fits the high pressure inlet but don't know. It would long appear that Lee mfg is no longer in business, too bad. The original flair fittings in the steering boxes may be larger than what is needed in the o-ring boxes and may be able to be turned down to fit. Wish I had some better info for you. It was a pain in the arse to find this the first time.

Re: FOUND!!! Power steering O-ring to Flare ADAPTERS
Do you know what size the inserts are for sure? I can get A/C inserts like meantioned above but I think there are two different sizes. Like #6 and #8? I'm trying to do this on a hydroboost unit and I know that the wrench sizes are 5/8" and 11/16" but I'm not sure how that translates to the actual line. http://www.ebay.com/itm/311464113724

Re: FOUND!!! Power steering O-ring to Flare ADAPTERS
If it has the cone shape brass pieces pressed into it it's flare, if it just has holes with a step down it's o-ring. Plus the box will have a part number on the top saying something like *******44 or *******44L, the L is the late model that uses o-rings.
Ps. Just to follow up on the adapters I meantioned above. I ended up using 2 #6 adapters. I had to remove the oring on one to get the line to thread in the hydroboost because the adapter was a little too thick but it still sealed fine.
