Re: Tried My New Sandblasting Attachment For Pressure Washer Today (pics)
Awesome stuff, I wonder if high end white sand from a quarry would work, it's really fine and still much less than actual media

Re: Tried My New Sandblasting Attachment For Pressure Washer Today (pics)
So if you throw some walnut shells or other media that does not warp one should be ok? I saw Northern had 4 or 5 different medias.

Re: Tried My New Sandblasting Attachment For Pressure Washer Today (pics)
it came with a list of different types of media you can use and suggested different ones for different situations ,but I'm going to use sand we have used it on body panels many times and never had a problem and I think water should even lessen the chances of any warpage, just my 2 cents.

I was thinking the same thing when I first started reading this post. If any of you try it, be sure to post up the results because I am very curious how this would work. ...Joe

Re: Tried My New Sandblasting Attachment For Pressure Washer Today (pics)
I went ahead and bought one but have not had time to try it yet. This post must've had some affect, because Northern was out of stock at the store and online - mine was backordered from the online store for about a week.
I am going to cut it's teeth on some ebay fodder I need to sell after cleaning out one of my storage sheds. If all goes well enough, the Scout will get body panel guinnea pig duty. Herb |

Re: Tried My New Sandblasting Attachment For Pressure Washer Today (pics)
Well...
I bought the kit from Northern - (still in shipping) - it should be here next week and I also have a frame to test it on...so we can see what happens. My frame has only surface rust - no scale. I will have plenty of pix - stay tuned... |

Re: Tried My New Sandblasting Attachment For Pressure Washer Today (pics)
How about using Baking Soda (the kinda you use in a soda blaster- I think it is even finer then the type you use in the refrigerator). The soda blaster process is not as damaging as the sand. Could the soda media possibly work with the pressure washer setup?

Re: Tried My New Sandblasting Attachment For Pressure Washer Today (pics)
When Lou used it on Muscle Car he used it on a frame and said it was to heavy for the body panels with the amount of pressure from the blaster but maybe it was just the type of media he was using

Re: Tried My New Sandblasting Attachment For Pressure Washer Today (pics)
When using SODA for blasting you need to use the etching primer that prevents an adhesion problem. Without the proper primer you would have a adhesion problem. I was told after using soda you use a mild detergent & water blow dry with air then etch prime. I know of a person who didn't and the regular primer never stuck on his cowl it had to be re-blasted.

This item requires a pressure washer. If you want to blast on your own you need the full setup like on Eastwood with a pressure tanks etc...

Re: Tried My New Sandblasting Attachment For Pressure Washer Today (pics)
Just a note to anyone that has a pressure washer and is just experimenting...
If you don't already, pick you up a GOOD rotary nozzle. They are pretty volatile when it comes to eating up stuff. I have one like so: http://www.pressureparts.com/Pressure-Part-2640855.aspx If you have paint peeling, you can get the rest of it off. It would easily clean up to bare metal if you are just getting off caked up crud, etc. They are LOTS more effective than the standard nozzles. Now, back to the blasting talk. You might want to check this out as for the different blasting medias - there are a lot of sites out there like this: http://www.kramerindustriesonline.co...ting-media.htm http://www.kramerindustriesonline.co...tion-guide.htm http://www.kramerindustriesonline.co...ison-chart.htm DLB Last edited by Orange; 05-14-2008 at 05:28 PM. |

Yes I knew it needed a pressure washer and we have one, I just wondered if there was anything else I needed besides this attachment, thanks.

Orange, are you saying to use this nozzle separtely from this attachment for other purposes or in conjunction with? I am just trying to find out the best thing to use for the least amount of money. I at least need to try to clean and paint my frame.

Re: Tried My New Sandblasting Attachment For Pressure Washer Today (pics)
You will not need anything else to do your frame except media. I used Black Beauty Coal Slag ($10 per 100lbs) on my frame. I blasted my frame myself (never again) with a normal blaster and painted it with this stuff. www.nomorerust.com That's my frame on their homepage. Used a foam brush and it looks like powdercoat.
This attachment is the cheapest but won't take off the heavy duty rust like my frame had. I would fork out $250 and have it blasted professionally if yours is like mine was. If it just need cleaned up a little then use the northerntool pressure washer piece...

It is just a pressure washer nozzle (just sprays water at crazy high pressure in a rotary pattern). They are really good IMO. DLB |

I'm thinking of getting this for my 4000psi washer.
Anymore opinions about this method? Here's a couple comments I found by using google: Quote:

Re: Tried My New Sandblasting Attachment For Pressure Washer Today (pics)
The general complaint is flash rust.
I can't find the thread now, but I think I remember reading that the flash rust is mostly the result of the minerals in the water. I have a couple filters that I got for washing my car that takes the minerals out that cause water spotting. My thoughts are to run the water through these filters then to the pressure washer. Then do rinse again with just the pressure washer to clean nooks and crannies that sand might have settled in.
