Gotta finish up the K5 tub we're working on, then move onto my 70 swb 4x4 fleet and get it finished up enough to be sale-able and that's how I'll fund the blazer build.

So best case is late spring or summer.
Shouldn't be all to bad, the tub is already rust free and I have 90% of all the parts, just need to assemble after I get the firewall welded onto the tub section...

Craig, yeah I agree.
I've read that thread and it's a very cool mod, it's on the list.

Chevyman63, Jim and I are talking about a blazer/jimmy road trip, you want in?
Maybe we'll make you the destination.

Sounds great! That may be the only way I could be involved at the rate my Blazer is getting done. Come on over, I'll make sure there is plenty of beer and food for everyone.

Here's my current build direction, more of a resto-rod than a restoration.
Starting with a 1971 Blazer 4x4:
What I already have and plan to install.
*TBI'd 350 w/700r/241 T-Case
*Not sure on the axles, could go either 1/2 or 3/4 ton but will run 4:10 gears.
*2004 Tahoe buckets/console and 2nd row seats
*Single walled top

Thinking about doing:
*Dyno matt or equivalent sound deadening material
*Decent stereo w/some kick
*Cowl hood and/or chop down the 71 hood and lay it back.
*Hugger Orange paint (cause I always wanted one that color)

That's it so far, so feel free to post up those favorite/cool mods that have made a difference.
I have wanted to use this http://www.lizardskin.com/pages/testimonials4.php It looks like it would work better than dyno mat and it would coat and protect the surfaces from rust and stufff....

Re: Looking for Build Input

Why not go with a GEN III motor instead of the TBI? You are already going to have to install a computer if you go the TBI route and why not use a late model motor, they make so much more power and get better gas mileage? Just wondering, it is your build and either will work just fine. I want to put a 6.0 in my 86 K10 and mate it up to the sm465. Sounds like it will be a sweet ride.

I'd love to but it's a $$$ thing, I already have ALL the other stuff and would like to use it up, if ya know what I mean.
Floor/storage space is full and getting a motor/tranny/t-case outta there clears up alot of room.

Course if you have a good lead on one...

I assume that is why you are using the 241 transfer case instead of going with a 205. I thought that the 241 had the front drive line drop on the wrong side. Also, you need to change your drive shafts to the slip yoke style, unless you get one of the eliminator kits. I know that you know all this, but you asked for our input and just was wondering. I am facing facing some of the same issues on my 5.7 Vortec/4L60-E swap and decided to just use the Advanced Adapters output shaft so I could mate it directly to my 205 and not deal with the other drive terrain issues that way.

The 241 I have has a passengers side drop, I thought that was normal...dunno.

Good idea about using a 205 to be able to use the same drive line yolks but you'll still need to mod the length, being the tranny is longer, correct?

One other reason for using the 241 is the better reduction.
it's got a 2.72 vs. the 1.96 of a 205.
With the 700/241 combo I get a crawl ratio of 76:1 (without a doubler) and high way rpm's @ 65mph of only 1936rpm. (w/4:56 gears and 36" rubber)

Re: Looking for Build Input

be sure you get a sye for that 241, i first installed my 465/208 with an 8" lift and had a 28" long driveline that binded just sitting there, had to find a 465/205 set-up just to get it moving!

I Think The Solid Side Glass Is Real Neat Ditch Those Wind Leakin Vent Windows You Gotta Want It Though But Thats Cool

Ive Also Wanted To Do Ifs Front Suspension Out Of A Mid 90's Truck Or Tahoe
In The Front That Would Make E Sweet Driver Maybe Not The Most Sturdy Off Roader But A Sweet Driver And You Could Get 4:10 Gears In A Half Ton If You Look In The Glove Box Gu3=3:42/gt4=3:73/gt5=4:10
G80=locking Rear Diff
But That Again Would Be A Lot Of Work But A Sweet Driver

I don't remember what year the 208 became the 241, but I always thought that the 241 was for the independent front ends with the drop on the drivers side. There were those years where both straight axles and independent where produced (1989-1991 I think) so, I guess they made the 241 in both configurations.

I actually am going to leave my 205 in the same place and move the engine forward to compensate for the extra length of the tranny. I have an electric fan from a Lincoln Mark VII , so there should be no interference with the radiator. That is my plan anyway.

Otherwise, it sounds like we will have a similar set up. I am running 4:56's and 35's. Right now with the Turbo 350, the big block gets winding pretty hard. With the small block and OD tranny, things should be much nicer to drive and be much more fuel friendly.

Great idea leaving the t-case in place, you should have plenty of radiator room with elec. fans for sure.
Your going to like the new set up, is there a current build thread you could link?
When are you doing the swap?

I'm guessing the 241 design's overlapped for a couple years.
Mine came out of a 1990 solid front axle blazer.

Really looking forward to the drivability of mine too.
Low 1st gear and happy highway cruising.

I have not started a build thread at this point, since I still am in the parts gathering and research stage. I was planning to start the build in the next couple of months, but we plan on moving in the late spring and I do not want to have the Blazer in pieces for the move. Also, I will need to work on my current house and the one we are moving into, so the Blazer is most likely getting pushed back until next year. The plus side is the new place has a heated garage and large storage shed that I can convert into a shop to do the build in. It will be worth the wait to be able to work inside during to wet winters here in the Pacific Northwest.

Re: Looking for Build Input

Here's the latest update/decisions:

*Parts I have/will be using:
'69 tub and frame
TBI'd 700r/241
Dana 60/14BFF w/4:56 gears and rear locker.
37" MTR's on H2 wheels
Double walled hard top

*Stuff I'm 99% sure about but still need to gather up:
PRP seats, both front & rear
Spray in sound deadening
6" front Alcans and 2" rears with a shackle flip and zero rates
Cowl induction hood

*Considering:
A Vintage air set up
Stereo of some sort
Paint color/interior trim

Then there's the cage I wanna build...

It's a slow process for me, dunno why.
