Re: Seals and Gaskets

Fel-Pro #TS80324 is the 205 gasket set, but I dont think it includes the output shaft seals.

Its been awhile since I had the same problem but I got the seals from Napa. There are two seals in the adapter that you need plus an O'-ring. I replaced the seals and it continued to leak, then I found out about the O'-ring and that fixed it. I don't think a seal kit for the 205 will help you because I don't think they come with the seals for the adapter which is where your leak is coming from.

It's aboot time I learn what's in my 205, I have an extra one for practice
I have like 25 gazillon megabytes of info some guy sent on a NP205 so it's time I read them!!!

Vince treated me real well, kinda like to help a Mom and Pop organization. He told me he would make sure to include the 'O' ring
I'ts good to know about the NAPA thing, I can carry spares

He said to make sure you put the coupling in the rite way there is a recess for it to sit in

I have had this same problem for a few years. Where exactly does this o-ring go, because I dont remember seeing one or puting one in.

Inside the mount of your transfer case, there is a coupling shaft, joins the trans shaft and the tranfer case shaft. On the coupling shaft is a recess that should hold the 'O' ring. I'll post up a pic. when my seal kit and o-rings come in, and I tear it apart.. J.

Re: Seals and Gaskets

OK, thanks for the explanation, I have been asking this question for years but nobody could ever give me an answer. Could you give me the dimensions of the o-ring when your kit comes in. This would help me out a lot.
Thanks

Re: Seals and Gaskets

I am pretty sure they were originally a deep red…..almost a plumb color. My dad bought our ‘78 tow truck brand new and I had a cherry all original ’72 Blazer that both had red transfercases and every one I seen laying around bone yards have some trace of red paint on them. I never saw a blue one before. PO must have done that.

I agree on the bearings….I didn’t do but one bearing in mine and I only did that one because it was easy to get to.

Re: Seals and Gaskets

How about this coupler shaft. Can this wear out and allow slippage and catching. Is it a spline that could get stripped?I have this problem in a truck where it seems to slip for a second when letting off(sometimes) and I get a nasty "clank" and a "grab" sometimes. There is some sort of slippage and it`s all gear:4spd/NP205 in a`72/stock.

In my experiences, mostly mechanical factory, sounds more like a bearing. A bad bearing will grab, if it gets hot that is another way to tell. You could have a little bit of debris on your balls... Just my .02
