Re: Looking at a truck today...
I think he was refering to the ones below the front sidemarker lights. I would say if the truck is clean of rust only in the inner fender and its the truck he wants it would be worth further negotiations body costs more $$$ to fix than mechanical. Your friend may not even be interested in the current powertrain set up. These things are hard to tell what they should be worth sometimes it all comes down to if they like the vehicle and the purchaser feels comfortable with the price.
Also check the wiring as well some of the PO do one heck of a chop job on it and can at times be smart enough to hide it well. |

Re: Looking at a truck today...
I'll tell you this, I am selling a shortbed 4X4 for $3k, so a long bed 2wd is not anywhere near as valuable as a short fleet 4X4. Tell your buddy about mine if he wants to spend $3k!

Re: Looking at a truck today...
it looks to have 8/350 emblems under the marker lights, whereas gmcs NEVER had an engine emblem, just the gmc 1500/2500/3500 emblem. somebody might have added them when they put the motor in cause they took it out of a 69-72 with an original 350 and it had the emblems on the fender. not a big deal, but i still wouldn't pay more than a grand for the truck. sorry, just seems like tx should have more choice, espicially considering ND has those kind of trucks for a grand or less. just to put into retrospective, my brother bought a 20,xxx mile(unverified, but many signs point to) 70 custom/10, NO RUST AT ALL, with an original 350/4-speed for $1400. i have bought 3 big block trucks, one bad, one fairly nice, one really good, all for under $2400 total. all drove home, too. just keep looking, imo

Re: Looking at a truck today...
If it really is rust free... oh... maybe 1700. Unless prices have taken a major jump lately I agree that 3000 is too much for that.

Re: Looking at a truck today...
My '72 is pretty much all original from what I can tell and it has disc brakes and no power brakes so I don't think I would worry about it not being power, it does have disc up front doesn't it?

Re: Looking at a truck today...
I also have a 72 w/o power brakes from the factory. You just have to slow sooner and sometimes STEP on it.

Re: Looking at a truck today...
When I say I wouldn't go over $500, I mean because he intends to do all the conversions. If he's going to spend the money to convert, why not spend it on a truck with the options you want already factory installed? I paid $685 for my 71, then plopped other untold 1000's into it making it the way I like. It came with all the bells and whistles needed though. Power steering, A/C, power brakes...

Re: Looking at a truck today...
doesn't look 2 bad 2 me. i would really look over the body since it's in primer, metal likes to rust if it's been in primer too long. check floors, rockers, cab corners, kick panels. check the floor of the box if it's in primer. see what the motors out of, and if there are in receipts for any work done on it. doesn't look too bad though. i would try to get that one for 1500ish. it's worth that if it is in as good as shape as it seems. good luck

Re: Looking at a truck today...
imo the gmc looked better see the big dent in the box on the gray short bed the gmc didn't look to be all banged up and another thing what has been done to the body already they could be hiding rust with that primer the white gmc in my opinion was worth more than this one looks like the motor is new and that's all it has going for imo please look at that gmc guy's that thing is really straight and it looks to be origianal paint looks alot cleaner than that 67

Re: Looking at a truck today...
so he is lenaing more toward a short bed now. I am kinda the middle man in the whole deal since i am more mechanically inclined and i own one too! I do appreciate all the input and feedback guys.
I like the way the 67 looks, but the primer does worry me a bit. might be nothing, though. Anyone else seen any good deals in the east/north central TX area? |
