Re: The GSFMech Build
Hey Krue,
Boy I hope it's done by then. I may not make cruisin this year if my work schedule stays the same but the year after I'm bringing it for sure. If it's finished and I'm off work you can put money on it being there. I sure had fun at the last one. Mike

Re: The GSFMech Build
Thanks for the props guys, but I didn't do anything that Mike wouldn't do, or hasn't done for me. I'm just glad that I could help out with a worthy project. Great build thread Mike, I can't wait to see some paint fly on that thing!

Re: The GSFMech Build
Time for a little update, I hope these pictures post OK I'm having a little camera problem. Anyway it's hard to tell in the first photo but the door gap at the top sucked. I had replaced the gutters and was beginning to think it was the gutter but I saw Bill (Palf70Step) do this mod on his truck so I thought I would try it. The next photo shows the spot welds drilled out.

Re: The GSFMech Build
The next photo shows the spot welds after I pulled the door frame up to make the frame fit the gap properly and you can see how much it was pulled up before I rewelded it and the minor body work.

Re: The GSFMech Build
Another pic of the bodywork and you can see how much I pulled it up a little better also a shot of it spot primered and the finished door frame. I know it's hard to tell in the photo but it really closed the gap up at the top and at the rear and it's more uniform all the way around, it was driving me crazy.

Re: The GSFMech Build
I have the bed floor blocked and ready for paint as well as the front bed panel. The inside of the bedsides will need one more blocking but they are close. I blocked that floor 7 times with Dupont urethane filler primer, I think it's going to be nice. I sure hope so after all the work.

Re: The GSFMech Build
My buddy Kevin finished up the tailgate and it's ready to paint. I slipped the bed back together here because of storage space when I'm at work, I've been doing all the work with it broken apart on a rack built for the bed (crappy photo but you get the idea).

Re: The GSFMech Build
Thanks everyone. It sure feels good to make progress.
Hey Bill, I'm hoping to have it ready for cruising the coast but it looks like I will have to work this year if my schedule stays the same so I won't make it. That's too bad I had fun hanging out with you guys last year. The rest of our bunch should make it though. Look out next year I will definitely have it there. Maybe you'll have yours done by then too. I'm hoping Wynne, Chris, Eric, Keith and a few more of us Louisiana guys have our trucks finished by then.

Re: The GSFMech Build
chevy72blu.
The first photo is an original small block cable bracket. The second photo shows it side by side with my modified bracket, one from the top and one from the bottom. I bent the part over where the throttle spring fits and cut it to fit against the carb to keep it from moving. The last photo shows it mounted to the carb. It was a quicky, you can probably find something better from Summit or jegs. Hope this helps you. Mike

Re: The GSFMech Build
Ah hah... I never thought about going OUT with the cable, I was trying to figure out how to take it BACK. Thanks man, I appreciate it!
Would you mind taking a measurement from the center of the hole that mounts to the carb base to the center of the hole where the cable is held by the clip piece? I am just going to fab one up from scratch out of some flat bar.
