you made this look super easy im so jealous... what did you do for a fuel system? i would be more apt to doing this swap if the wiring aspect didnt scare me so much.

You definitely stole it. I can never get tired of seeing 5.3 or any LS swap in general, I think it's a really good motor choice and they are getting cheaper and cheaper. The best deal i've found is 900 for motor, comp and wiring, NO trans. Maybe i'll get as lucky as you someday. It looks great.

Re: Did a lil work on the 71 today.......pics
Thats one hell ofa radiator hose...
I like those wheels, it make the whole rig look like the old non long funny cars, i can just see a picture of the truck twisting the wheels more then the tires with some smokeout back. too cool. Made more of a 'sleeper' look. I bet it makes for a wild ride with that new motor and the lose of the lo pros.

Sicmaro, how much would you charge to do a complete swap something like that? I don't know if I can ask that here or not? But really, your obiviously way more mechanically inclined than me!

Sweet truck and nice job on the install, that truck is gonna move with that setup.
I don't know if I missed it somewhere or not, but isn't '04 drive by wire? Did you end up using an earlier throttle body?

yes sir, i took a 6.0L throttle body and had to add the wiring in for the idle air control and the throttle position sensor. I repined the harness to match a 99 truck and programed the pcm as a 99 also. runs great!!!

There is a lot that goes into it that I didn't post. I'm not sure if I'm ready to tackle working on someone else baby....... I used to work on customers cars at my last job, force fed performance, but if something happened, which it didn't, it wasn't my ass.

When you are ready to work on other people's rides let me know Sicmaro. I would really like to see this engine set-up in my '69 C-10.

Re: Did a lil work on the 71 today.......pics
Well right there is proof positive there is an aftermarket inline fuel pump that will run these late model engines. Since I have been owning late model GM trucks and having to replace the intank pumps (what a pain) I have been saying there should be an inline pump capable of running these engines. Holley has said they did not have anything that would work. I assume for liability reasons.
Sic, did you manage to wire in a scanner receptacle in cab for diagnostics? Like SierraGrande eluded to, a good many of us are intimidated by the electronics of these late model swaps. And if we couldn't convert the harness ourselves it means spending big bucks at some place for a new harness or having ours modded. The days of the straight across engine swap are long gone. Congrats on yours. It ought to drive like a new one and get real good mpg too. And I guess it would pass a smog check if it had to?

Re: Did a lil work on the 71 today.......pics
Guys if you get a stock harness and the full wiring schematic its really not to tough. Yes there is a data link port, i put it in the glove box.
The pumps...... first off i used what i had laying around. The red pump is a super old Holley pump. Basically it is being used to suck the gas out of the tank to feed the high pressure in-line pump. The in-line pump is a walbro 255. The problem with the walbro is that they are not meant to run as a solo pump. they need to be gravity fed or like this, use a pump to feed it. On my camaro I tried to gravity feed my LS6 and it didn't work out, burned up pumps and ran out of fuel top end. This set up on the truck seems to be working good right now. I have a wide band and am going to check the air fuel at top end soon. I really didn't spend to much money on this swap. used the stock motor mounts, made the s&p style adapter plates, used a lot of my stock exhaust, used the truck manifolds from the 5.3l, my stock radiator, tranny lines, used the stock trans cross member ( just moved it back a lil, there were holes in the frame already for it), used the stock tranny mount, the stock auto shifter linkage. start collecting parts, plan out what you are ganna need and it wont be to tough.

Well Ive only been driving it for a week now, and I don't have a speedo yet. The factory gauge doesn't work with the 4l60E. So may not have that info for awhile.

Nice work! I have driven my Dads 06 K2500 with 5.3 and L480E it feels like it has more power and is much more efficient then my 01 with the 6.0L and L460E. I think if I was going to do a swap like this it would be the same one you did. Once again Nice work!
