Any oil with ZDDP in it. It will make your engine last longer. It's the same kinda stuff that Z-Max has in it. It Keeps your engine from wearing out too soon. I would recommend it to anyone. The Z-max stuff has been used in airplanes for a long time. I also trust Lucas products and B&M Trick Shift Tranny fluid. Stuff works great!

Re: Additives: what works what doesn't?

I've been trying the STP Oil Treatment on the last two oil changes because it says on the bottle (in super small print) it contains a good bit of ZDDP. I put it in and I could immediately tell a difference and my mileage went up. It has to be though because my engine is worn and as thick as the stuff it is it has restored some of the compression. I'll continue to use it since it has the zddp I want and it gave me some compression back for only $1.99 a bottle/oil change. I use that and regular valvoline oil. Valvoline is all I have ever used and had no complaints ever.

Any oil that doesn't say "Energy Conserving" has Zinc and Phosphate in it. Rotella Shell is great as far as that goes.

Lucas oil stabilzer is good if you have a worn out engine, if not, you don' t need it.

I've used Seafoam, wasn't really that impressed with it. Didn't seem to really do anything.

To clean your engine, good, put one quart of transmission fluid into your oil and run it until it gets up to operating temp and a little longer.

Then drain it AND the pan for best results, because all the crud goes right to the pan and guess who else hangs out there, your pick-up. Unless you can get the rest of the remnants of old seals etc out through the drain plug, I never could

I've heard of people putting Acetone in small concentrations, maybe 6-8 ounces, into their gas tank. I've tried it on my old cop car and picked up about 1-2 mpg out of it. Some people say it destroys your fuel system, I personally don't think 8 ounces into 12-15 gallons of gas will hurt anything.

Marvel Mystery oil too for your gas keeps it clean.

Re: Additives: what works what doesn't?

marvel mystery oil is my fav. Use it in oil changes and gas tank. Seafoam works when it need a more drastic cleaning like carbs sticking. Love it on old bikes or cars that haven't run in a while. My secondaries where sticking but have gotten A LOT better after 3 tanks with seafoam.

btw for extra zinc doesnt do much unless its solid lifters and cam. Also rotella stopped doing zinc additive. Valovline racing is the only one left besides specialty oil like brad penn. I have to use it in my flathead.
