Re: '72 Cheyenne Project - Kansas City
Thanks Doug. Now to actually get them mounted.. haha. They sure feel nice though, I went for a quick drive and they take alot of the bounce out of the ride. They're slightly off center maybe an inch or so. But, for $40 I can't complain.

Re: '72 Cheyenne Project - Kansas City
paint's gotta go.. time to see what we're really working with.
Not too bad under the bondo. Other than that nice hack job of a filler plate the bedside looks pretty straight. The donor bed will be giving it's life to patch lots of things here and there on this bed. Pics of the donor bed later. Working on picking up a nice MIG welder soon. Still building the cool arsenal.

Re: '72 Cheyenne Project - Kansas City
Does anyone repop this? I think it would be the bedside inner fender. I'm planning on salvaging my bedside with some patch panels and another bed I have. But this piece is bad on both beds and I don't see a repop in Classic Parts/LMC/Mar-K/Brothers. It's on a '72 long fleet.
It ties the outer and inner pieces of the bedsides together.. might be called a splash guard too.

Re: '72 Cheyenne Project - Kansas City
in my opinion i think if u rattle can the truck as a whole it will look like butt.. you will have dark and light spots for sure... you can tell it was rattle canned too when your finished... but if u do the wheels rattle can i think it would look good since its smaller area..and plus if you ever spill gas, laquer thinner.. or anything like that your going to have the rattle can paint come off.... just my .02..

Re: '72 Cheyenne Project - Kansas City
Been wondering what happened to you... hope to see you at the Truck Nat's again this year and I hope you can bring your truck as well.
Great looking progress, don't you just love PO's (previous owners)?

I'll be there.. if the truck is in a running state still then it'll be there as well. If nothing else just to rep the board. I still need to port and polish my heads and get my valve covers and intake media blasted. She should look completely different by the Nats. DAMN fine score btw. That is a stunning truck.

Re: '72 Cheyenne Project - Kansas City
Thanks....
Well if you need more parts there's a swap meet coming up April 4-5 at World's of Fun. It's put on by the Ararat Shriner's, and we went last year and had an absolute blast! I think we're heading up that way on the 4th. Your truck will look totally different when you're finished with it, but I do think I'll miss the marble/wood glovebox/gauge panel cover... Thank you for the props on the score, I'm still in shock!

Re: '72 Cheyenne Project - Kansas City
That should pretty much button up the top end and freshen up my heads after I port and polish them. I think beyond that.. maybe change out the timing chain for a double roller or gears, cam, valves and lifters. I got my intake manifold and carb all polished up and clearcoated with some Eastwood Diamond Satin Clear. Went ahead and sanded down my chrome air cleaner and sprayed it flat black and coated it with the same clear. I think it all turned out well.

Re: '72 Cheyenne Project - Kansas City
Nice! What did those seats come out of? I've seen a few in other people's trucks that I really like, but can never figure out what the donor vehicle was.
Never mind . . . I read back through the thread and saw they came from an Astro van.

Re: '72 Cheyenne Project - Kansas City
I'll be there. Truck won't. I went through a period where I was torn on selling it or keeping it because of a move. But, I couldn't seem to get anything done on it while I was thinking about selling it. I decided to keep it and and work has continued. Got a rust-free wood bed and a nice looking hood off craigslist, that I still need to pick up. Other than that I just got one of the heads pulled off and I'll start cleaning them up and porting a polishing them soon.
Haven't done more than fit up the electric fan.. but damn it looks pretty. haha

Re: '72 Cheyenne Project - Kansas City
Now the donor and original beds are out of the picture. Traded the donor bed/trailer and $300 for a really clean 1970 Wood Bed. It's going to need some work but the few places with rust through are easily fixed with some patch panels.
Driver's side cylinder head is off, valves are out and I'm starting to get them cleaned up for a nice port and polish followed by new pushrods, springs, valves, retainers, seats and pushrod guide plates. I'm taking pics of the port and polish and plan on doing a write-up in this thread for it.

Re: '72 Cheyenne Project - Kansas City
Bad News.. I failed at porting and polishing my 882 heads..
Good news.. Vortecs now I just need to pull the push-in studs, tap for screw-in studs, then buy some guide plates, centerbolt valve covers and a Vortec intake.. dammit might as well throw a cam and lifters into the mix while I'm at it. haha

Re: '72 Cheyenne Project - Kansas City
well the press-in studs get to stay since I don't want to have machine work done for the guideplates. I guess I don't need them since I got some self aligning Comp Cam roller rockers to replace the ones pictured above. I did get some new stuff today though. Centerbolt valve covers and a Vortec style intake (Edelbrock Performer EPS).
