I had a similar promblem years ago on my 72 GMC Sierre Grande. The carrier bearing mount had actually stressed and snap. I paid an Exxon station in the area of my break down a 100 dollar bill to tow it in and weld it for me. 20 miles down the road on the way home , it breaks again above the new weld. After a long agrument with the station, they came and got it and welded it again. I think that one lasted 2 days. Disgusted, I called a buddy of mine that knew these trucks quite well. ( He has a 72 4X4 that he competes in truck pulls with) He brought up a drive shaft out of a 72 chevelle. Worked perfect ! We took out the carrier bearing and never had another promblem with. I pulled a 22 foot camper for two more seasons with before I sold it. Now keep in mind that this was a shortbed, but if you measure center of yoke to center of yoke, a good salvage yard should be able to hook ya up

how much was that bearing...i want to put one of those aluminum shafts just for the shiney look

I replaced mine a couple of weeks ago when rubber busted all up. It was $32 I think from NAPA. Took away some vibration I didn't even realize I had. Amazing when you replace something the small difference it makes. Not hard to replace. Did U- Joints also... .replaced all but the front one because it was greasable where the others were sealed. so just greased it.

For a short bed with a small block in the proper location and a short shaft TH350, a one piece shaft is 4 foot 10 inches.

The bearing was about $75. It looks like it should last at least as long as 2 of the other ones though

was it any harder to install? or did it mount as eazy as a standard carrier bearing? BTW that looks awsome (80ish moment)

I haven't gotten the bearing yet, but it should be just as easy to install as the normal kind. I also have to change the rear springs at the same time, because someone thought that front springs would do just as well on the back too, and I think that is a big part of the problem that makes them keep breaking.

It might be worth the extra money to get the shafts balanced while you have them out.

Well, the new carrier bearing came in the mail today. It looks WAY better than the old one

As soon as I can find a set of rear springs (instead of front ones lol) I am going to get it put in, and I will probably post a review of it in the proper place.
One thing I will say, the packing for the bearing was well, interesting. It is a good thing it is so strong I guess. You might want to remember that if you order anything from them.
