Re: New truck build.
I started buying some things that I will need before I start breaking it down. I bought a 1000lb engine stand today, and I also ordered some POR-15 Marine clean/degreaser, chassis coat, and thinner today. Next week I am going to pick up an engine hoist from harbor freight tools. After I get the hoist I will get the transmission and engine out. After the I am going to take the front end apart, then the bed, then work on getting the cab off. After all that is off the chassis I am going to start on it first. It's going to be a busy year, I can't wait!

Re: New truck build.
Finally!!!!!!! An update on my truck. I have'nt had much time lately to work on it so I finally got out in the garage and worked for almost two days. So...... I got the hood off, the front fenders off, inner front fenders, bumper, radiator, heater box, 90% of the interior, and many exterior engine parts. It's moving slow so far, but what can you expect from a full time Military guy. I have also been collecting parts that i will be installing.

Re: New truck build.
I made an attempt at working the headers this weekend......turned out great if I say so myself. I used the VHT 1300 to 2000 degree exhaust and header paints. I used the POR15 degreaser first, then sanded them down real good, degreased them again, primed them with the VHT primer, then shot them with the VHT aluminum color, then applied a clear coat from VHT as well. They look great in person, and I hope it lasts for awhile. You can tell which one is in primer and which one is cleared.

Re: New truck build.
Well, I got a few things done last weekend. It's slow going so far. The next step is to get the front and rear suspension parts off. Then I will get the frame down to bare metal and paint it with POR-15. While I was deployed I started buying a bunch of parts, so as soon as I get the frame painted I will be putting on the new parts. I'll keep yall updated. It's going to look killer, the frame will be painted silver.

Re: New truck build.
I have some updates for yall. I have been working on the frame getting it ready for the c-notch then some paint. I made room to relocate the gas tank from in the cab to under the bed and also took off the rear bumpstop brackets to mount the c-nothes. Here yall go:

Re: New truck build.
POR 15 is the way to go as far as your paint choice, you will not be disappointed. They also make POR 20, which is high temp exhaust/header paint, and will hold up a lot better than VHT.

The frame is painted!!!
I haven't been on in a while so I thought that I would post some pictures of what I have been up too. I finally got the whole frame and suspension apart, which took me forever. The hardest part about doing this while trying to save some money was getting the frame down to bare metal. Which by the way I DON'T RECOMMEND doing the old fashioned way. I went through a bunch of flap discs and wire wheels for my grinder. I used a paint that is like POR-15, it's called Bill Hirsch miracle paint. It cost $30 a quart, I only spayed on 2 quarts. Anyway, I think it turned out real good.

Re: New truck build.
Don't mean to high jack the thread, but with the Conroe swap meet later this month, maybe we should all get together and meet in Conroe.
I have a shop in Conroe, about 4-5 miles from the swap meet, and we can use it for a base. It also has a secured parking lot and such. Swap meet is the 29-31st. Mike
