Off Frame?

FYI,
I know my cab is front heavy, the firewall shifts the CG a little forward....

Be sure to do a proper weight & balance Lee...Don't want a dynamic rollover do we? haha

here's a quick how to:
-remove brake and clutch pedals by unbolting them from the linkage.
-disconnect throttle linkage.
-disconnect parking brake linkage rod.
-remove starter pedal
-remove steering column/box. unhook (or cut) any wires and the speedo cable.
-unbolt the cab from the frame - it is four bolts. the rear unbolt from the bottom, the front you have to hold the nut on the bottom with a wrench while you remove the bolt from the top
-remove the doors by unbolting them from the hinges (2 bolts per hinge)
-slide in you lifting contraption and lift the cab off

it does. i did all that by myself! now if the cab was painted, i would consider having some helpers to guide it into place.

Wow that's quite the lift setup there, and it seemed to balance out well, thanks for the pics and the run down. Nice cart too, I was considering building something for mine as well, but I'll probably set it on the trailer with the bed while I get the frame and drivetrain done. I may have to get some measurements from you 1-ton of fun on that cart, great idea.

Is the a 71 or 72 El Camino I see sitting in the driveway? Nice looking SS! Well, I just looked at your signature and it seems to be a Chevelle, nice. I'm looking for a 66 or 67 SS 138# Chevelle, they're getting way too expensive anymore.

yeah, it is 71 chevelle ss 454. i am buying it from a buddy of mine for a very good price. the title just came in, so we should be able to finish the deal this week. it just needs some minor body work, new paint, and new front seats, but it does run. i have taken it for a couple short cruises, but the registration and inspection are expired by like 6 years, so i'm not driving it until i get the stickers. i am pretty excited about it, i posted some pics in another thread titled "the latest distraction from my truck" or something like that.

Man wouldn't you know one body bolt just didn't want to cooperate, but the ole hammer and chissel did the trick. Anyway, I haven't lifted the body yet, but plan on using a 2X10X6, should do the trick, we'll see shortly.
Here's a pic of the wood with Eye-bolts! Will be using a cable to hook the two, lifting with JD, should be interesting.....

Yes, we just sent in his AKC paperwork yesterday. We plan on getting a female shephard as well, would like to have some pups to tear up things....

He watches everything I do in the shop, gotta love that. He's also learning from our 13 yr old shephard as well, and hopefully will carry his spirit on...

I did mine the same way you did. It really works well.

Did someone say Shepherd? Other than building cars dogs are my other passion.

These are my two boys, fully trained the dark one is a Dutch shepherd. They are very sweet dogs unless they are working.



Protection dogs should be nice and sweet but when working you should get this.

Great looking Shepherds Kabwe! The only area my dogs work is in the yard, I've several acres fenced, they get plenty of exercise chasing whatever varment straggle in......it ain't healthy for people to come in if they're not invited, I can't guarantee their safety.

Well I finally got a break and lifted the cab off, JD made it easy....



Couldn't get it on the trailer at this time, so I set it on some jackstands and 2X6s, now I can get to the frame and drivetrain.
