Re: Barn find resurrection
Nice find on the 010 block, it's also known as the racers block. What heads came with the motor?

Re: Barn find resurrection
Your going to want to look under the timing cover. If there is an 10 and a 20 then it is High nickel High tin content. Good strong block.

Re: Barn find resurrection
If you're lookin for performance, and your budget can afford it ,World Products Sportsman II heads are hard to beat for the money.Roughly $800 for a pair.Brand newcastings, stainless valves, hardened seats, thicker deck surface, and they flow better than any chevy head, right out of the box. When you get into re-building stock heads, for a few dollars more you can have brand new.Just my .02 worth.

Re: Barn find resurrection
My plan is to build with the best quality I can on a very tight budget. Then I will sell it to make money to put into my 71 4x4 project. I'm sure you have seen those pickups at swapmeets that have a quick paint jobs and look like cra@ when you get close. I want this one to look good and be affordable. I will do the complete build including paint to keep costs down.

Re: Barn find resurrection
I read in in a book that 882 heads are not good for HI-Performance. It has double heat passage at the center exhaust passage, prone to to heat crack around exhaust valve seats, stock maybe, if you use them have check out, 993 are good heads, they are open chamber heads you may some them around i have 2 sets, 1 set came off of 74 Monte Carlo 4 bolt main, the other set came off of 76 2 bolt main, they are on most target master motor,if looking for a good set of heads Jegs has heads for HP, hope you find some thing out there, just look & ask, some body should have a set but have them check by good machine shop,

Re: Barn find resurrection
The '010 block is defitely a keeper.
The 882 heads aren't bad from a flow perspective, but the chamber shape is the problem. They'll typically make 20-30 HP less than an "old style" head...and way less than a Vortec. |

Re: Barn find resurrection
All I had to do is replace the valve seals nd clean them up. They were in great shape so I used them. It's all about how little money i can spend and still end up with a quality driver. Having fun doing it.

Re: Barn find resurrection
Aint nothing wrong with that! I'm sure those heads will do just fine. Plus when you're ready you can just bolt on a set of your choice with that freshened 010 block you got!

Re: Barn find resurrection
You're flying through this build man. That pain is looking great and so is the engine, keep it up.

Re: Barn find resurrection
Lowered it 3 and 4 useing blocks and coils. Saved money this way by not changing the front spindles to disk brakes. trying to keep it simple and stay in my budget. Got my engine set in and front mounts hooked up. I cant find my rear mounts. Tore the shop apart looking. Dog probably took it. installed some interior.
