Re: 1969 Chevy Stepside Restoration/Build up

Thanks!
I finished the body work on the passenger side fender. Now to fix the small dents in the drivers side fender. I also need to find a grill shell for a good price off the internet with good shipping prices to Alaska. If you know of somewhere that has one for a good price (maybe used) let me know.

Here's a picture of the fender:

Update: 1969 Chevy Stepside Restoration/Build up

I've finally decided on the exact color I want to paint the truck! This was a long decision, I originally wanted to paint it blue with a white top. This has now changed I was looking in a magazine and saw a picture of Stacey David's 67 Chevy Truck, Copper Head from Trucks/Gearz. I really love the color so I decided that I'm going to paint it the same being that I have never seen that same color up on any truck up here in Alaska so it will be one of a kind up here. It looks really good as a solid color and would look great on a stepside.

I found this on his website:
CUSTOM PAINT CODES
"Copperhead Metallic"
Custom Color created by Stacey David and Ron Payton of PPG
Paint and bodywork by Kevin Tetz; additional paint and bodywork by Malcolm Pritchett
Take these formulas to any PPG Distributor and they'll make a custom mix just for you!
1 QUART FORUMLA
CODE COLOR CUM. PARTS
DMD1698 Medium Aluminum 467.9 467.9
DMD1610 Transparent Red 809.0 341.1
DMD650 Sparkle Aluminum 879.0 70.0
DMD1606 Perrindo Maroon 918.4 39.4

DMD646 Weak White 970.9 21.9
DMD622 Red Oxide 975.3 4.4

Here's what his truck looks like:

Re: 1969 Chevy Stepside Restoration/Build up

I finished doing the body work and bondoing/sanding the drivers side fender. So I think I'm done doing all the major body work on all of the parts of this truck! Now its time for a lot of painting..... The guy at the paint shop is mixing up the Copperhead metallic paint for me too so I should get that soon.

Here's a picture of the fender:

Re: 1969 Chevy Stepside Restoration/Build up

Well I just got an awesome 69-70 complete grill off Craigslist. It was a really good deal, they were asking $200 but they thought it wasn't in very good condition so they gave it to us for $100! There is almost no damage to it at all and the chrome is in really good condition for it being completely original. I also scored on a stepside rear chrome bumper brand new. The guy ordered one and got sent the stepside one for his fleetside truck. I bought it from him for $100. I'm really excited about this because now I have every part to complete the exterior of the truck minus front bumper...

Here's some pictures:

It came with some extra chrome headlight surrounds.

Re: 1969 Chevy Stepside Restoration/Build up

Well its been a long time since I did any work to the 69' lots of things have been getting in the way, vacation and other random projects. This week I finally got some stuff done. We painted a old fender that I had laying around as a test fender for paint colors, just to make sure I really liked the Copperhead color I picked. I attached a picture of it. Last week I picked up a new chrome front bumper so I have all exterior body parts now. Today I worked on fixing the bed sides there were a lot of holes in the top that someone drilled, so I had to go a weld them up and then bondo them to make it nice and straight. I only got one finished up today, I'll work on the other one tomorrow.

The painted area on the lower part of the fender has black primer behind it, the upper has gray primer behind it.

Do a silver basecoat then spray the copper on. It'll look so much better!

Update: 1969 Chevy Stepside Restoration/Build up

Well a big update we got lots of priming done today. We primed the cab and under the cab by lifting the front with the engine hoist. We also primed the stepside fenders. There was one bad thing that happened while we were painting it was sunny when we started then it started to cloud up and sprinkle rain. There was nothing we could do so we just kept painting and only a few drops really got on it so should just sand right out during wet sanding. Anyway here are some pictures:

Re: 1969 Chevy Stepside Restoration/Build up

Well not a huge update but I've been doing a lot of sanding. Not on the 69' cab but on another project. I've been helping my dad with a 95 Chevy truck that we are repainting so that's taking up a lot of my time sanding it, ect. The good news is that it should be getting done soon so I can get back to sanding that primer on the 69'. Then I can paint on some Basecoat black on to give the copperhead color the right look.

Re: 1969 Chevy Stepside Restoration/Build up

Well we took apart a newer (I think it was 91') 5.7 V8 we had from a truck that was seized up and needed to rebuilt. We are going to turn it into a 383 stroker engine. I was originally going to stick with a stock 350 but my dad convinced me otherwise so 383 it is then. We are going to have it basically completely rebuilt it with new heads, etc. I'll post more information about it as soon as I get it. I only got a few pictures of it before and after.

Notice how its covered in dust from sanding!

Re: 1969 Chevy Stepside Restoration/Build up

Well It's been quite a while since my last post or getting even close to the 69 to work on it. I haven't had much time lately with school and other things. I have also been busy selling my old truck (96 GMC) and buying a newer one (2000 GMC Sierra). Yesterday a friend came over and we finally got something done! We moved it from where its been parked in the garage down to the paint booth to get worked on in there and painted. So look for more updates on this soon.

Re: Update: 1969 Chevy Stepside Restoration/Build up

Great progress!!

Is it just the angle of the pictures, or do these fenders have a different style of marker light on each side? The first one looks like it is raised, or sticks out front the fender, while the second one looks flush like the front fenders do.

Re: 1969 Chevy Stepside Restoration/Build up

Well I've been sanding the cab a lot, but it still needs some more sanding because we primed it outside and a lot of dust got in the paint. Tomorrow I'm going to go look at some bucket seats out of a 2003 GMC sierra. There the ones with the integrated seat belts so that should be nice. Whats also nice is that they only want $100 for the set. I'll post pictures as soon as possible of any updates.

Update: 1969 Chevy Stepside Restoration/Build up

Well I scored some bucket seats from a 2003 GMC Sierra for only a $100 dollars! They're in perfect condition and the drivers side is power. I like the fact that they have integrated seat belts as well. Unfortunately the guy selling them "lost the center seat/console" but said he would contact me if he found it. Anyway here are some pictures...

Thanks, I need a little positive feedback on this once in a while. Haven't been able to do much to it, do to being over loaded with tons of other projects (such as fixing problems with my daily driver).
