Not mine! My 90 tbi 350 only has 90K on the clock, goes thru 1 quart of oil every 200 miles. Dang thing runs soo good, just likes to munch oil. I bought the Suburban non runnin, needing a head gasket repair. I put new valve seals while it was apart, well didn't work. Low end problems.

Re: I bought a Honda

My 1991 Honda Accord 4 dr (5 spd) with 200K on it still get 38+ on the highway and 31+ around town.........Our 1980 Corolla wagon has 440,000 miles on it....has never been apart, never had a clutch or tranny work...still gets 38mpg on a road trip. My father drives it daily. The 1980 Corolla sedan he bought at the same time as the wagon has 375K on it, never been apart...but it has had 1 clutch. I dont know the current mpg's on it because it sits in my garage.

Re: I bought a Honda

i know how u feel when u get great fuel mileage..When i bought my lil saturn sl1 3 years ago it amazed me how far you can go on very little gas, steady mid 30's its awsome gives u a great feeling..i love going to the gas station and i like to say outloud wow 32 is all it cost to fill me up wow lol...way to go great deal, and the best part is, you can replace the tranny or the engine if something happens and still not be on the loosing end

6'2" 265 pounds...........plenty of room in the 91 Accord! Seat still can go back more

Re: I bought a Honda

Try www.honda-tech.com most of the time those guys are purely technical. There are a few jack asses around there but they tend to frown on guys not asking technical questions.

As for y our question, I am pretty sure you check while the car is off. It will only hold 3.5 quarts I believe.

Here is a thread from Honda-Tech.com about changing fluid:

I did read somewhere that you check Hondas when the are cold and w/ the engine off… Just thought I’d run it buy you- THNX

Re: I bought a Honda

Thanks, Andy, I checked that post out. I also checked out a Haynes manual and it stated that you should check the tranny fluid up to a minute after turning the car off. It didnt state while it was hot or cold, but Im make the assumption that the car should be hot as the fluid expands.

There is more than likely a crosshatch for both, hot and cold. At least, on our newer chevy trucks and my pontiac there were, idk about honda

Re: I bought a Honda

Orangecrush,
The insurance company waits until I fill out forms and seems to be more interested to see if the vehicle has been recovered. The paperwork even asked do I suspect of anyone taking it ? WTF if I did know who did it they would be tortured !
On a side note MajesticHonda.com has alot of parts or sale and exploded views of the entire car like the Honda dealer has. It helped me when replacing my clutch. My tranny was 5 speed so to check mine I had to undo a bolt and check it. kinda like the rear end of my Heavy Chevy

Re: I bought a Honda

one main problem with me... I am 6'5" 220lbs so these small cars do not work for me... but since I work from home and most of our driving for the family is done in our Durango... we really do not need anything with better mileage... although once my burb sells I am trying to decide between a motorcycle or a Jeep Wrangler...

I am 6'-5" and about 210...I fit in our Civic no problems.

BTW - Wranglers get horrible mileage...at least my wifes 99 did (15 mpg pretty much all the time).

Re: I bought a Honda

My Honda was a tough little car. I have carried 400 sq. ft of porcelain tile
(1,300+ lbs) in it when my truck was tore apart for my motor swap. I filled it with sod twice for my back yard project. 1 pallet of sod at a time. I have seen little trucks that bounce along the road with that much weight in it. I have gotten some Hes an idiot looks when I have done that but hey it worked. The guy I was doing the tile job for had a Do%^& half ton truck and was worried about the tile being too heavy for his truck so I did it my way and he was so impressed that he bought his daughter a Honda for going away to college.
If only they made a real truck !
