Re: What's behind your seat??

Well I got a little work done on mine this weekend. I hacked up the 4x10 speaker bracket a bit and attached a MDF baffle board to hold the Infinity Kappa 6.5" components. Unfortunately it doesn't sound as good as I had hoped. Need to seal the back somehow, and stiffen up the bracket.

I will hook up the Bazooka next weekend and let you know how it sounds.

Re: What's behind your seat??

The reason it doesnt sound good is several reasons. I will start with the first and most obvious.

Sound Staging:
in any acoustical environment (ie home, auto, concert hall) you rely on whats known as staging. You want your mid to high frequencies coming at you from the front and the lower frequencies (bass and sub-bass) coming from the rear. The mid to higher frequencies are directional, therefore its important that the speakers reproducing these freq are imaged correctly. Your mid to highs are mounted behind your rear seat, and in fact are firing directly into your seat. I know the stock speakers were there, but OEM systems are known to suck arse. You would be better off mounting them on the door panels or in the kick panels. This will allow you to aim them to where you will actually hear the sound.
Bass is omni-directional, so its less important to have it imaged. But you generally want this coming from the rear.

Midbass Response:
You are correct in that sealing the enclosure will increase overall response of the midbass driver. If you had the choice of installing them in your door panel, then you can seal off that area much easier and utilize the inside of your door panel as the enclosure, creating what is known as an Infinate Baffle. This will greatly improve the bass response from the midbass driver. But dont confuse the 6.5 driver with a subwoofer, as they can only effectively reproduce frequencies from say 100 hz up to 2500hz. Bass and sub-bass come from speakers with much larger cone surface area and generally reproduce the notes in the 20hz-80hz range.

I know people like Dynamat, but its overpriced for what it does. I have used a product in the past with all of my car audio builds and it works just as good and cost much less. Its called Raam Mat and can be found at www.raamaudio.com

Anywho, try moving your speakers to the front of the truck and you will achieve better results...

Re: What's behind your seat??

Lets see now, 1 Mossberg 500, 1 Winchester 7MM mag heavy berreled sniper rifle w\a 4X14 Leupold scope, 2 44 magnums and under the front seat, 1 on each side, 2 Colt 10mm autos and a few boxes of ammo for each. One never knows what one may run into on the road these days. It's all perfectly legal too. Being a dealer has advantages. Jack and all that mundane stuff rides out back. LOLL

Little stuff left to do is mount winch, wet sand & buff out and build belly pan\running boards. Body work takes lots and LOTS of beer!!!! God, Guts and Guns made America and God, Guts and Guns will preserve it! The worst thing you could do is get into my sights, but that don't matter, you'll never know it, cause you'll never hear the shotJim or Paladin whichever you choose.
