jdurant,... have you ever checked out Mickey Thompsons S/R radials? They have some sizes that are bigger that a 275/60-15 that will fill up your 10" wide rim. Like the 28X12.00R15LT's or the 29X15.00R15LT's.

this is the best pic of mine i could find of the rear. not a rally or a square body, but maybe it will give you an idea. mine are 15x10 wheels on the rear with a BFG 275-60 tire.

Yes Cooper run small. I run 255/60 on the rear. I've run 235/60s on the front. Now I run 245/60's on the front.

My current combo 245/60 front and 255/60 on the rear are nearly the same height. Coopers are smaller than stated.

I really did call the contact numbers on both the Hoosier and Micky Thompson websites and asked sales guys. I revisited the Hoosier and Mickey Thompson sites based on what you guys said, and it appears that they do call it a street performance tire. Looking at the tread patterns and reading their claims and the fact that they make them in smaller sizes for the fronts--they do look like the best choice despite their price and that they may wear out faster. Unless Blazin79 convices me otherwise with his pictures(that I am very grateful for)then I am gonna go with the Hoosiers because they appear to have the best sizes for what I am looking for and I really like the tread pattern. Summit carries them, so shipping will be cheap. They are expensive though, so I really hope their sizes are true.

I'm feeling the tire size delimma now. Rears wheels are only 8" wide. Best option for wider, sportier selection would be larger wheels. Unfortunately, budget is shot for truck mods. Stuck with 275s or a while.

I know, I shouldn't have done it. Stockton won't even make 17s in the truck rally. Plus, I've spoken to them a couple of times, but it's never worked out to do business with them, but I have been reading some pretty terrible stuff all over the place. Besides that you would not want a 17"+ steel wheel. Can you imagine how heavy that would be?
I'm thinking: get some smoothies, have somebody with a CNC cut the squares and then drill and tap holes to accept the original center cap, then paint the face and leave the lip polished Of course, it wouldn't have the 10" diameter rib, so hard to say whether it would look right. Might be the closest thing without spending some serious dough to get them totally custom made. I've been studying some smoothies in the "Post your favorite Suburban" thread that I think might would work. Looks like I have my next photoshop project figured out.

Yes! I'll get some pictures up as soon as my friend emails them to me. Plus we tried some different wheel/tire combos I'll post as well. I should get them later tonight or tomorrow.

I wish someone would make a copy of the truck rallys in a 20" and 22". I llike the look of a clean set of 15" rallys they just don't fill the wheel wells unless you run a tire with a tall sidewall. A 20x8.5 and a 22x10 would be sick and theres so many tire combos to choose from. I know someone started doing the Corvette style rallys in a billit aluminum in larger sizes. Heres the rallys from my Burb on my 74 same size rims 8's and 10's the back have a 31-10.5-15 they tucked on my Burb with a 6" drop just had to roll the fender lip.

I don't know, probably. These are the ones that were on my mind. I think it could work, but would really have to see some in person to see if the profile is even close.


I've also been thinking: It slips my mind right now, but whoever made the large replica wheels for Kenny Wayne Shepard's Genereal Lee--it was a rather large, well known wheel co.--quoted me a pretty reasonable price (I think less than $3000) to make the same wheels in 18" or 19" to fit a Turbo Buick. I don't see why they couldn't recreate the truck rally in alumminum just the same. All I know is if I'm gonna one day spend GOOD money on wheels for this truck, this is the manner in which I wanna spend.

Several yesrs ago, Colorado Customs would make wheels of your design for $2500 over the initial cost of the wheels. You would own the 'design rights' for 1yr. After that, the idea was their property to do with as they please.

So 20" fronts & 22" rears @ about $4500 + $2500 for the set-up. That's why there's none out there . . ..... truck guys are a cheap bunch of knuckleheads .

Hey i have the exact same tires u just bought, except ive got 295/60/R15's all the way around. Im guessin that my wheels aren't 10 inches, however its a possibility. You can try and guess fromt he pic. I'm not sure where the previous owner got these however...

Side shot of 15x10's and 275/60's all around. This is so you can get an idea what the BFG looks like on a 15x10.


I have a 235/70 on a 15x8 that I had powdercoated for a spare. It has a 9" section width vs. the 11" 275/60's, so I thought it'd be a better fit on the front.


The picture doesn't do it justice. It looked like I had a space-saver spare on. That combo ain't happening.

My friend who was helping has a 96 RC SB with 275/60's on 15x8 454SS wheels all around. We decided to pull one off and try that.


That looked better than the 235/70, the fronts tucked under the truck. But we both liked it better with 15x10's all around. We ended up looking for more tire for the rear. BFG makes a drag radial in 325/50 that is the same height as the 275/60's. So that's what is going on the rear of mine. I'll have to have the front tires reversed to black-wall out, but it'll give me tires flush with the body front and rear which is what I wanted to start with.

Plus it'll work better with the engine plans.
