Re: First car/trucks!
Look kinda familiar?
Bought it when i was 13, dad got a loan and i payed it off by working with him and mowing lawns. That pic was right after changing it all over to 5 lug and putting front end on. Last edited by scotts62; 12-17-2008 at 11:05 AM. Reason: added stuff.. |

Re: First car/trucks!
Mine was my c10... Bought it just before I turned 15 after my dad told me no way in hell could I have his galaxie cuz that was the original plan. He caught wind that it was 1 of 400 made w/ that option setup, and his dad gave it to him as a first car. Had the c10 bagged before we even had a motor for it.

Re: First car/trucks!
Mine was a '69 camaro RS/SS 396 4spd. Got in a lot of trouble lost my license, had to sell it yada yada yada. But I replaced it with a '67 RS/SS 350 convertible that I still have. They weren't worth much in the 80's.

Re: First car/trucks!
My first car was a '58 VW Beetle.....I think I have one crappy picture of it that I'll try to scan...
- - I was a about 13 when pops bought this beater for me to tinker with for $100. Before long I got bit with the "bug" and I and my 11 year old neighbor had the body pulled off in no time. Equipped with only a wire-wheel and drill, I went to town on the pan and suspension. It was fun building that thing...Taught myself that you must start from the ground up if you want something clean.....Not just paint on the out, and grease and grime on the in !

First car was this '74 Buick Century that I bought for $800 in 1988. I did a lot of "fixin' up" before it was beat to death in a hail storm.

Re: First car/trucks!
Don't have any pics of my first ones. First car was a rusted out 55 chevy 4 door with a 6 cylinder in it. I remember how the front end would start rolling when I hit 90mph. It blew up a year later & I parked it. Never did do anything with it. First truck was a 75 chevy 1/2 ton with full time 4 wheel drive. I replaced the 55 with an 80 monte carlo & the 75 with a 94 dodge dakota sport.

Re: First car/trucks!
First truck 1962 K10, loved that truck. Had the head rebuilt then I reinstalled it during a snow storm. Ran like a dream. Always started except one day I could only start it with booster cables. Did I check to see if the battery posts were clean? On the outside they look great, but finally my Dad secretly cleaned the inside of the battery posts while I walked to work. After a couple of days I went back to the truck and it started fine on it's own. Dad just smiled! Dummy!

Re: First car/trucks!
My first car was a 1963 Mercury Comet 4 door Custom. 260V8, 3 speed auto. It got t-boned by dumb-ass Ron Greene and his '79 monte carlo (alot like MalibuMonte's) while he was trying to show off at an intersection. Still pissed about that all these years later...
I had to sell it 'cause the Unibody was tweaked. Now I have two more 63's: a 2 door hard top and a convertible S-22 with the 4 speed! Both projects, as I've put all the time and money into the C10...much more useable toy Last edited by tenni126; 03-03-2011 at 02:47 PM. |

Re: First car/trucks!
When I was 14 my parents promised me a car if I got better grades, so I did. My first car was supposed to be a 1947 Chevy coupe, but the owner kept dragging his feet. So my dad found a 1946 Chevy two door sedan for $35. About a month later the coupe came available, so I got that as well for the same price. I worked hard and paid them back for both cars. For a while I was allowed to do whatever I wanted with them, so I repainted the dash in the sedan, and at the same time completely dismantled the coupe in preparation for a V8/4 speed installation. Sadly I have no pictures of either one.
Of course I had no money, no job, and parental support vaporized the further I got into the project. Tearing it all apart probably wasn’t a very good plan. I was told I could keep one or the other, so the coupe went to the wrecking yard, both because it was now just a pile of parts, and I discovered I actually preferred the sedan body style. About this time a 54 Chevy two door came available with a broken transmission. I don’t remember why, but I was allowed to get the 54 but the 46 had to go. Probably because they thought I couldn’t fix it and there wouldn’t be any risk of me driving it. I never really wanted the 54 but I figured I could fix the transmission and sell it, putting all the profits into the 46. A friend agreed to store the 46 at his house until I got the 54 sold, but while in storage it somehow managed to side swipe a building messing up the entire passenger side and I lost interest in getting it back. The 54 turned out to be a cherry 2nd owner car and I began liking it (so much that I owned five more over the years). It was originally split pea soup green and I wanted to paint it black. Since it was my dad’s spray gun, he insisted it had to be turquoise, and he was going to do the painting. It turned out terrible and looked like it was done with a vacuum cleaner. Here’s the oldest photo I have of it, in the high school parking lot, taken by a friend in photo class. A few weeks later with the parents away for the weekend, I ran it right back in the garage and painted it black (my first paint job). Here are a couple of pictures of it in 1966: There was one run in the front of the hood, but was happy with it. I put in a blended Bel Air windshield, a Dragfast floor shift, a rebuilt shaved head and a chrome carburetor cover my neighbor donated. I wound that six out like a Ferrari and blew the transmission 13 different times, and once blew up the clutch. It was sold right after I left for the Marines. The new owner painted it purple with white fenderwells. This is the last picture taken before it disappeared, while I was away in beautiful exotic Southeast Asia: |

Re: First car/trucks!
me with my first truck. it did not look that good when dad gave it to me at age 10. i spent 7 years getting it ready for my senor year of high school and lots of lunch money and mom wondered why i was so skinny. its a 66 big window with a 61 hood and a 60 grill. a 350 with a small cam and a powerglide (that powerglide was my birth day/ Christmas present when i was 14). i still have her she is just a little shorter and all apart now.
