mine bounced around from Wyoming to Minnesota and ultimately to Kansas. You have to remember, western and southwestern state trucks have less rust than us here in the Midwest Rust Belt!! so we have those babies shipped out here.

Re: Fremont plant trucks

My old longhorn has a Z in the stamp.....been garaged in Illinois since Dec of 1984. "Those west coast trucks are sweet as molasses". The old truck came to me in dec of 84,very well worn ,dinded up, but VERY solid , showing a buck 40.....or was it 240,000 on the clock($550). Well, a 1/4 century later, and untold & forgoten thousands of dollars later, shes still not painted properly......but that old chop top, dropped chev gets all the thumbs up whenever she hits the streets. The resto guys will no doubt say that this old man did wrong......but the dudes with V8 s -10S wouldnt even "mess" with that old truck She ran a 425 Caddy for a couple seasons, a hard torkin 461 inch OLDS(that was bad azz) for 3 seasons. she ran a 355 for another 3-4 seasons, then settled in to that Edelebrock rpm topped 383.....next trip may be into the LS motor. You can take the old man out of HOTRODDIN, but you absolutely can NOT the the HOTRODDIN out of the old man. One totally different longhorn....crazyL

My brother's custom camper 3/4 ton 4x4 is a fremont truck- I am always impressed as this truck has crossed at least two continental divides in its life- too cool! By the way probably not going to be there.

So......I should know, but I don't. What part of the vin# indicates where it was built. Mine has been here in NorCal all it's life, so I would be surprised if it were built somewhere else......but stranger things have happened!

I know it may be out of the way for you bay area guys, but I can arrange something in Merced at a fast food joint that belongs to my uncle. He does a Hot Rod show yearly If I remember correctly. Im sure he would like it. Or pick a place and let us all know !!!
I dont know about the vin, but The only reason I know my truck is from Fremont is cuz I swapped out my seat and found the build sheet tucked behind the seat.

I could be wrong, (someone correct me if I am), there is a Z in your truck's vin #.

Example: My 72 GMC's vin # reads, TCE242Z......

So that would make my '72 GMC 3/4 ton custom camper a Fremont truck. It has spent all it's days in Southern California.

Re: Fremont plant trucks

Mine ended up in the UK either as a personal import or more likely it came over with a US serviceman as it came from an area with lots of US airbases and got left behind. Thats how quite a lot of US vehicles entered the UK. My old housemate had a US spec VW Rabbit he bought from an airman based at Greenham Common (yep, home of nuclear tipped cruise missiles and smelly women hippy protesters)

Re: Fremont plant trucks

How hard do you think it would be to add the side trim your truck has to one that never had the trim?

Re: Fremont plant trucks

The lower trim is easy cuz you just follow the lower body line.

Use the stud type clips because (in my opinion) the dbl tape style clips don't hold the mldgs tight enough to the body of the truck.

Get the mldgs and install the clips and measure where the studs are in relation to the mldg edges and run a masking tape line down the side of the truck where the studs will line up. get your stud spacing right and drill away making the holes oversized so you have some wiggle room.

Some of the nuts will be a little difficult to get on and tighten, but it's doable.
