Re: 6.0 install complete
Gotta say, you had the cleanest BBC setup, and have one of the cleanest LS setups. Nice work man.

Re: 6.0 install complete
It's hard to say Mike. I do love that '96 large but your LS package is smooth too. I'll bet it is way more driveable than the carb'd fatty especially with the OD trans. Oh and give your wife another hug too. She's a keeper.

Re: 6.0 install complete
I like it....but....I like your old valve covers better. That paint job really set the old motor off.
How about painting the new ones in a similar manner...:metal;

Re: 6.0 install complete
, i think you put a adaptor bracket on, then mount a set of samll block V/C on with the same paint scheme...and relocate the coils.....thatll give it the old time feel

Re: 6.0 install complete
Mike,... what brand of BBC valve covers are those in the pics?
Also, what are you going to do with the old 396?

Re: 6.0 install complete
lolife, the old motor was sold.
here are some cool valve cover for the LS motor that lets you use a smallblock valve cover as the coil cover. http://www.streetandperformanceelect...nst/555751.pdf again , thanks for all the positive comments. Mike Last edited by mike nutt; 03-10-2009 at 05:31 AM. |

Re: 6.0 install complete
Very nice....one of the nicest I have seen yet. I'd bet the LS will outperform the BB...I know it will in mileage and driveability.
Clean....real clean!

Re: 6.0 install complete
thanks all !! the truck is running great . i have done a couple of upgrades though. i installed a set of adjustable 1.75 rockers from comp cams. they say they will fit under stock rockers without modifacation (not!!!!!). i had to remove the baffles and do some grinding. also put in a set of ford svo 30# injectors. i found out after i got them that they are 30# @43 psi and at the 58 psi they are 36# , the stock ones were 24#. it still runs fine , but i am going to have to get the software to tune it so everything works like it needs to. the computor came tuned for a 5.7 in stock form. here's a couple of pictures.
also, carried the truck to a local car show and took home the participant's choice trophy. mike |

Re: 6.0 install complete
Truck looks great with either/both motors. I am a bigger fan of an old BB myself but maybe I'm a bit partial since that's what I have now.
What BB mounts/towers were you using and with what headers? For some reason I'm having NO luck with headers that work with my BB on stock towers. Last edited by Dynomutt; 05-06-2009 at 07:25 PM. |

Re: 6.0 install complete
very nicely done!!!
FYI, your stock springs are ok for the stock cam..... the rockers are a waste of money.... but since you have the LS6 in there the best next upgrade is a cam!! for future reference dont get a cam that has a bigger lift than a .570, since thats about what the LS6 springs are rated for.... also, dont take to long to tune the truck for the new injectors, i bet it is running rich, you dont want to mess up a nice motor.... keep up the good work!

Re: 6.0 install complete
+1 on getting it tuned ASAP. Your now dumping about 50% more fuel and the PCM can only compensate for + or - 20%. Good looking motor!
