Re: Time to go on air

Firedog has been feeling under the weather so I will give a update. Today we removed the air tank freshened up the paint & added blocks under it so it could be drained. Also installed grommets where the wiring goes thru the back panel. Added hose clamps to secure the lines once they come in so they look organized. Should get pics tomorrow. Hopefully the DOT line makes the trip tonight.

Re: Time to go on air

progress front 3..A little insight. Got the front tore apart. Ruined one tie rod end by tearing the rubber or already torn. Removed the old spindles, painted the new drop spindles. found the hole for the lower control arm too big, had Gramps weld a huge washer to fill the hole in. Everything is going smoother than we figured. Now final assy coming up next work day. As my 69 is going to get wet outside the garage which is a no no.

Re: Time to go on air

thanks dad it cant hurt that old thing hell mine is even older and it sits out all the time.

the front has gone very well now ready for reassembly i am using my tubular lower control arms with a drop pocket along with the drop spindles then i stepped back to think about cutting the cup down that is on the bags for the front and did some measuring and if i want to be able to drive this thing out of the drive way i wont be able to cut any off the cups since they are already the same length of the drop springs that we just took out so i am going to leave the cups alone and hopefully get back to work on this sunday eve.

any questions or comments i am brand new to this airbag stuff so they are very appreciated

Re: Time to go on air

Are the tube A-arms dropped or just set for bags? Combining dropped spindles and lowered A-arms usually doesn't work.

Re: Time to go on air

Why not? Guess we will see today then. Do have a stock set of A-Arms if we have to change em..or go back to the standard spindles what ever it takes?? Looks like everything is kosher though so far.

Re: Time to go on air

well we put it all together the control arms have a dropped pocket on them the control arm it self is not bent to be lowered so i hope it works i got the pass side done today and it sets low air'd out but still have enough to get it to a decent ride height hope it works out definitely need a wheel alignment tho

Re: Time to go on air

If he goes lower in the back he will need to move the pipes/ mufflers in the rear.

Re: Time to go on air

here's the update from today:

got the drivers side completed and routed all the permanent lines all that is left is to do the electrical wiring.

sammy is right the back won't go any lower right because the mufflers are sandwiched between the trailing arms and the bed floor so they will need moved

the rear has no c notch either so after the mufflers are moved we will have to see how low it goes

my plans for the air bags is mainly just for show so i dont plan on driving this really low

thanks everyone for the inspiration this board is great i never would have attempted it without the great minds from here
so everyone enjoy the pics its because of all of you that its gotten to this point

Re: Time to go on air

I think N2TRUX comment about the a-arms and spindles being used together is a scrub line issue. The suspension will hit the ground if your tire goes flat. Running 20's you probably wont have any issue, but check it out and be aware.

Nice looking set-up and I dig the scrounging....been doing the same thing.......truck is looking killer.

Re: Time to go on air

I'm surprised as well, but I'm glad to hear they had a good turnout.

When you get a chance could you post a side profile shot of your truck aired out (on a level surface) before you install the C-notch?

Re: Time to go on air

I did see that picture, but I guess since it's a black truck (the angle, cloudy...) I'm not able to see how far the rear wheels/tires tuck in the fenderwell.

No biggie...

Re: Time to go on air

Looks great. If you guys see or know of any more of these trucks laying around down there, shoot me a PM. I've been scouring CL too for a truck to build. Found one for $200 w/o a title. Hoping to go look at it Sat.

I'm in SoCo, originally from Barnhart.
