First Post looking for help

Got my temp. tag on Monday, and today I drove an hour each way to get the truck inspected, the inspector said he didn't like the idea of the KY VIN plate being held on with a screw, but since it matched the title, he wanted me to secure the VIN tag permanently as soon as I got home. He took pics of both the KY VIN tag, and my frame number and told me I was good to GO.

By the time I got back home to my local Tag office, the inspector had called, and told the lady to have me call him prior to turning in my paperwork, because there was a problem and I would have to be issued a NC VIN. I stood there trying to call him, but apparently being a License and Theft Inspector in NC is a sweet gig, he works 8am-10am...so I can't get a hold of him until tomorrow.

He surprised me with how nice he was, and said that he may have to jump through some hoops...but he would get me a title!!!

The title for my 67, has it as a 66. dmv told me cuz it was built and sold in 66. an my truck was # 789 67 truck built in 66

someone at your DMV was retarded at one time then. it doesn't matter when it was built, nor when it was sold, They don't go by calender years, and haven't since the 50's (??) Your truck is a 67 mosel year, it is certified for 67 safety equiipment, ans if it was implimented byt hen, it would be smogged for 67. Honestly, i would try to get that fixed. The title is supposed to be the final legal word on what it is, and if it is wrong, then it is wrong.

i did go back to the dmv when i got the new title. an told them its a 67 not a 66. she told me the go by the vin plate and frame

HI RUDY; I had a similar problem when i got my 70 1/2'er the numbers read OK, then i checked out the rest of the numbers from my shop Manuel and figured out the truck was built before ,, October 1969, so it was registered in 70' I also found out from a GM worker ,,whom I'm married to ,,that worked at GM,, that's what happened when they built,, for instance,, the trucks in the summer of 66,,June to Sept. of that year,,then it is registered in OCT.for the following year which in this case would be 67. she also said that the trucks are never registered to start in the the first month,,January,, fiscal year stuff from what i understand,,so all the new models were start in the middle of the year.:Chevy: metal::

Technicly, this could actually be a problem for you one day. Not likely that it'll ever actually happen... but that title is the legal description, and now all your other papers are off becouse someone not wanting to do there job PROPERLY.

Just got off the phone with the inspector:

Since the KY issued title has lists a 1967 truck with the VIN C1546F109347 NC is reading that VIN as belonging to a 1966, so they will not accept it. What I have to do is get the Tax value from my local tag office for the vin that belongs with the frame (SCE147Z100490), then get an indemnity bond from my insurance company for 1.5 times that tax value. Once I do that, the state of NC will issue me a VIN which also has to be listed on the indemnity bond...the inspector is being very cool about it (which surprised me)....he's going to try to get the special title division to issue me a VIN today, so that I can get the idemnity bond.

It sounds like (the comments above) that it's not just me...but I think I would recommend getting this fixed ASAP, it's not just whether you plan to sell your truck or not, but getting pulled over OR trying to register your vehicle in another state! KY had no problem with leaving this mistake alone, but NC sees it as a MAJOR MISTAKE and will not let it fly.

Oh, by the way, NC charges nothing for doing this with me...it will cost me to get the indemnity bond, but nothing to the state of NC.

keep plugging away slategrove ,, it will happen soon enough for you,, and don't loose that tag that was hanging from the door, could be your only proof that you need of what year you have there. just keep working with the inspectors and every thing should come out OK,, keep us updated .:Chevy man:

you just listed SCE147Z100490 as the original VIN... is that S a typo? It doesn't belong there.

that's what I told the inspector when he told me that was the "correct" vin for the truck (according to the frame) but he insisted that it should have an "s"

nope. Starting in 72, that digit became filled, chevy got a C, and GMC got a T. But 67 - 71, no, that's not right.

your right longhorn man ,, the C would be 4x2 Chevy type truck and the E would be for v-8 gas engine. the s was never in the beginning of the Vin numbers that i remember.:Chevy:

I'm not debating you you guys, but I'm at the mercy of the inspector and wherever he gets his info...when I talked to him this morning (still no VIN issued from Raleigh) I asked him about the S and where it came from, he said the National Insurance Crime Bureau is who gave him the VIN with an "S" and that was all he could tell me.

Hopefully I'll get a call from him with the NC issued VIN on Monday.

The "s" may be a designator for a reassigned title.It may be there to prove that the truck was retitled.If that's what the inspector does that's probably what you have to go with.It may be the designator for a "salvage" title also.

Good news:

After 3 weeks of paperwork, I did finally get an endimnity bonc from State Farm, so the the state of NC would issue me a VIN, and transfer my title, give me a registration, etc...I am finally legit (atleast in regards to the truck anyway).


Problem:

When I started "GUS" up Wednesday morning, using the hand choke, fired right up as usual, gave him a couple seconds to idle, took the choke off, and isled some more while I lit my cigarette...he was running really poorly, and kept spitting, sputtering and dieing unless I had my foot on the gas. Had to drive with 2 feet to get him the mile to work...

Popped the hood, and he was dumping gasoline out of the bottom of the carb. Went to work, and when I got the chance I came out and the gasoline had evaporated, leaving a dry manifold. Started him up, without the choke, and everything was fine...ran like a dream as usual.

Next morning, choke on, started him up...gasoline dump again...

I need some opinions here as to what may be wrong...tried to get him to do it just now, so I could take pictures, but everything was fine. What gives???

you may have to rebuild the carb ,,,to make it work right,,if it's been awhile since it's been running maybe the gaskets need to be replaced. just my thoughts on this one .

cool results on your registration, keep plugging ,,it'll come around to were you get it all done.
