Re: I just can't catch a break... My Chev is hurting

That's pretty ugly (there's an oxymoron for ya), Young Lady.

I've seen stuff "grenade" before, but never quite that bad; at least not recently.

Judging from the pictures (and I could very well be wrong), I'm going to guess the problem was in the transfer case and not the driveshaft; like maybe something in the transfer case seized & quit turning, but the truck kept rolling along.
I also think you're very lucky that the driveshaft didn't dig into the asphalt (bitumen?) & send you down the road in a series of "endos".

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I'm sorry to hear about your truck, but glad that you are safe. I hope you can get it all worked out quickly and as painlessly as possible.

What do you do for parts? Are they available at all?

Man thats a tough break Lara. Just as well you love your truck so much otherwise there might be trouble!
Sorry, I can't sort out from the photos whats going on. Looks like transfer case internals, but I can't see the adaptor (between gbox/transfercase). Not sure how much is non stock under your truck.
I wanted to say that if you are looking for transfer case parts (NP205) that your early (maybe 70's) International (and maybe Dodge) trucks had 205's under them and would be availiable. Maybe the gearboxs as well. I just put a Dana ring and pinion out of a Aussie Dodge in my truck.
A guy in town here has a International and knows all the details. Let me know if I can help.

Bill.

Looks like the transfer case Lara. Bummer. First off, find out what transfer case you have. When your diesel was installed, did the original tranny and transfer case get replaced with what came with the diesel?
Was it locked in 4wd when this happened? Sounds like them mechanics over there better start listening to you....

Re: I just can't catch a break... My Chev is hurting

It wasn't in 4wd when it went bang - the mystery continues.

When we both get home I will sit down with the paperwork.
I know that when the diesel went in the gear box went in too so it came with the motor - as for exactly what it is I will need to go back over the records.

I met a hot spanish guy Saturday who is giving me a lift home so there is another silver lining... best part is that he doesn't speak much English.

That is a lousy way to spend a holiday. Good luck!

I am curious about the diesel that is in your truck. Did it originally have a diesel in it? Do you know what size or any other info on it? From the factory, we only had gasoline engine options here. Very interested in what is (or was) powering your truck.

Re: I just can't catch a break... My Chev is hurting

It had a 350 badge on it and a 327 motor in it when I bought it.
I was towing a lot so I put a '99 6.5L diesel turbo out of a GM Suburban in it going from a 4 speed to a 5 speed.

Re: I just can't catch a break... My Chev is hurting

Very sorry to see your truck is sick..

Always sad when they break down but even worse when it leaves you stranded and in a bind.
I wish I could come help you but my truck doesnt even run let alone fly or float .

I hope you can return home safe with your Truck and get it built better than ever and in time learn to trust it again

As to Drive Shaft Loop's :

These can be a life saver in many cases but if I may recommend , If you get one try to get one thats NHRA Approved and stay away from any that bolt to the floor.
You want the ones that bolt/weld to the frame and a person who understands the best place to putt it.
The Loops that bolt to the floor boards will rip right through the thin floor metal like a tin can which would leave you with even more repairs if it happened again in the future.
Again good luck and hope your truck feels better soon.

Re: I just can't catch a break... My Chev is hurting

It is amazing how many people assume I will trade her in or quit on her - and yet they would not trade in a child or a beloved spouse for being ill... they just don't get it.
We are going to go hard core - give the big girl 6 months and she will be back better than ever.

Thanx again for all of your support young fellas. I don't feel so alone.
