Re: Do you remember when you could ___?

I worked at the corner TEXACO station back in the 70's. When I went to SUNY MORRISVILLE in 73 I remember buying 190 grade SUNOCO for my 67 CHEVY IMPALA and paying 27.9 cents per gallon.

Re: Do you remember when you could ___?

any body here remember when there would be gas wars? Several stations close to each other would keep dropping the price lust to attract business to the repair shop side of the gas station. We had pumps in front of the repair shop my dad ran as a kid, and I can remember him doing this a few times. Gasoline was usually about $.25 per gallon, and can remember seeing it for less than $.15. around the mid to late sixties. I also remember when I could work all day, play all night, and still get up and remember what I did yesterday, but that is another story!

Re: Do you remember when you could ___?

I grew up in the 80's and remember gas at under a dollar a gallon. I worked at a full service station and had to wash windshields and check tire pressure and oil. Nothing would tick me off more than it being 10 below and an old lady say "can you check the air in my right front tire" then I'd say "it's fine" then she'd say "well can you check the air in my left rear tire" and I'd say "it's fine too" and so on and so on until I'd check the air in all 4 tires. Then she'd say "Can you check my oil". I'd prefer to just have gotten all up front "check my tires and oil sonny" ya know? Oh, and the big trucks. Had to wash their windshield too. Worked at the same station for 3 1/2 years in high school making $3.35 an hour and never got a raise cuz I was "part time". At least I had a job while of my friends were goofing off enjoying their childhoods.

Those are some cool shots!

There's a gentleman here in Chattanooga that stores his car collection in a building that's built to look like an old service station.

I've shot a few photos there as well.

See ten figured you had a few stashed somewhere. Well we have a Texaco, Gulf, we need a Standard, Site, Sunoco, Shell, Mobile and a few more. Anyone?

Talking Re: Do you remember when you could ___?

I had been waiting for the right thread to come up to post this , I GUESS IT WILL FIT RIGHT HERE !

my dad keep this for year's and it was still in his billfold when he died in 97 I keep it in a frame , the truck he bought this gas and oil for was this 69 chevy 1/2 ton stepside the gas was 3.97 x 11 so that was .36 cent's per gallon , 2 quart's of oil was 1.10 so that was .55 cent's per quart , date on the receipt is 9/15/69 september 15th 1969 !

here is a pic of the truck and that's me he is holding

Re: Do you remember when you could ___?

Now I know I'm older than dirt! In 69 I had already spent 4 years in the military and was starting my new job that I kept for almost 40 years...
