The 70 Nova SS BB is rare...my first car in highschool so I have a weakness for the ugly old things. They were quicker than the vette and the camaros that year, 70 was the end of muscle with emissions so it marks the end of an era with the short production year...love the darn things but you have to love them to like em.

Try to "typically buy one" then. After you find it, then try getting it for 6 grand. Find ONE in the next 12 months and I'll buy you a 12 pack of your favorite sort and send it to you, Fed Ex. 70 short fleet wood cst/400 never repainted runs perfect, all equipment in working order. GO FETCH.

I am sure an internet/google search would find something about production totals, option breakdowns etc. but,... if you found the truck you really wanted,... it looks like GM produced the exact right amount of them.

same thing with the Price, ... if someone asks, tell them you paid the exact right amount.

AWESOME !!! BB & 4-SPEED !!! im a HUGE NOVA LOVER since i grew up with my oldest brother and his 427 ss 4-speed 69 nova.... (early 80's so the fender flares where IN STYLE- i will recreate this car someday- 427 was ALL GM HEAVY DUTY stuff, 7/16 rods, square port heads etc... car would shear the ring bolts off in the 12 bolt when he would side step the clutch)

(the burnout was the old version- 2nd gear 300ft-high school parking lot lol)

this is my brothers newest build....

Re: I get screwed? 70 CST/10 400, Short Fleet?

You didn't get screwed. You payed a fair amount (not a steal, but not screwed either) for a nice truck that is what you wanted. The numbers are going to be tough. I know you have been around the block a time or two, but I don't know how much you know about these trucks. They are similar in many ways to other collectible cars, but different in other ways. As hard as they are to find in good condition, A complete numbers matching all original truck isn't worth a fortune more than a piece meal truck that is put together very nicely. These aren't like the Novas and Camaros. It sounds like a great driver and can be a great show truck with minimal work. If you want to repaint it a different color than the trim tag, I don't think you would really be hurting the value much. Heck some Nicely done non-original trucks fetch more than an all original does.

Sounds like you got a fair deal and you are happy. Go forth and Frolic.

Welcome from So Calif. FWIW, you did not get screwed. Even if its a "clone" you didn't get screwed. So what if someone had added a tach, buckets, tilt, etc. It's all GM right? As Shawn pointed out above, these aren't like Camaros and Chevelles, and you stated you are not looking to re-sell it. Try scraping up all the correct pieces and making a truck like you just bought. Try finding rust free OEM sheet metal. Bottom line you got a rust free SWB big block truck with some goodies to boot. Enjoy it!

I don't think i'm capable of getting mad over this...just making a point...not a run of the mill truck.

BTW how do I find out production numbers? Is there a way? I've looked high and low and high again online.

Like everyone else....WELCOME from Southern Lake County in the Mountains of the Hamlet called "Cobb".

I did a straight trade for my 72 GMC Short/Fleet in April.
Traded my 96 2 Door Tahoe and couldn't be happier!
I'm on a TIGHT budget, but in 4 months, have managed to scrape up almost $3K to put into it already.
Its a never ending love affair.

First of all, I am 99% sure that they did not put the VIN on the the blocks of the trucks like they did on the cars.
Second, I don't think you will find an exact production number. Chevy left us some clues to give us a good idea, but as far as options (BB, SWB, etc) they don't break them down very well. Try PM'ing boardmember Longhorn Man http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...ber.php?u=1956 He has a good idea of what was made.

Dude, we're yanking your chain... If you start a post with "I get screwed?" You're gonna get some kidding. Hope you do well on the project.

btw: The reason I said you got screwed is because most of us start off with a truck that eventually requires many hours of labor and lots of money for parts, paint, etc... You will wind up spending twice what you paid for it if you do to it what we all would like to do to our trucks...

Good luck and keep us posted...

Hehe--sorry..couldn't help myself

First off, do give Andy (LHM) a PM..he's a wizard with this stuff..

Besides Andy, one good published resource is:

The Standard Catalog of American Light Duty Trucks
Second Edition -- ISBN 0-87341-238-0
Check with your local library or on ebay.

The newer copies of this publication has a lot of the
more pertinent info missing so, if you can find this older copy,
it would be good. Even that older edition is missing much of the info
we could use, but it's the best I've found, so far.
___________________

From the info you've given, here's what I've gleaned:

1970 ˝ ton trucks—US and Canada 40,754
Of those, the % of options of all GM light-duty
trucks in 1970 had…

tint 28%
Upper trim optional on CST 14%
CST package 10%
Lower wide trim standard on CST package
402 CI (advertised by GM as a 396) 5%--
(cost an additional average of $160)
Non-ac trucks—84%
Push button AM 48% Tach 1%
Automatic 38%

I am assuming you have a C-10 (1/2 ton).

Show us your SPID and it will make things a bit clearer...

Leaf springs? Power brakes? Power steering? Posi? Bucket seats?
Mirror style? Camper package? Painted or chrome rear bumper?
White walls originally? Wide tires w/ white walls (rare)?
Door edge guards? Sway Bar? 3-tone paint? Body Paint stripe?
Chrome hub caps? ... etc, etc...

Sure does sound like a very nice truck...Congrats!

Welcome to my new favorite internet site! First off, you know as well as the rest of the die hards on here you DIDN'T get screwed.
BTW, that is by far my favorite truck that I would order new today if it was possible. I have a numbers matching 70 CST with 396/400 factory tach with all the bells that were available in 70 on a 3/4 ton (needs restored). It will someday be what you just purchased. It needs a full restore and it will cost WAY more than $9K to do it right. If you do find another truck like this send me a PM....I may just try to buy it. Good luck finding build numbers...I haven't found them anywhere...They are probably about as rare as a 68 Z28.
Sweet looking NOVA too!

So am I to go with the lowest statistical charachteristic or apply all in desending order. If indeed 1$ came with a tach it is at most, one of 427? Seems a bit low...there had to be more tachs than this. Sounds a bit low to me.
