I'm hearing the thing to do is to ace the carrier bearing and rear shaft and just go with a one piece drive shaft. I did have a drive shaft guy tell me that I could have run a short front drive shaft with no problem, but who knows...

hum.. everyone im talking to, including gearvendor themselfs, say to keep the 2 drive shafts.. even more so for me because im 6 inches longer with the longhorn...

I had a 1970 longbed with a hot 454 and a Muncie M21 4spd in it. The previous owner had converted it to a one piece driveshaft. It had a bad vibration in it that I could never get out of it. On a longbed or especially a Longhorn, I would definately recommend staying with the two piece driveshaft. JMHO.

Lots of guys including my self run a one piece shaft in their LWB trucks with no problems and les maintence.

I have the GV with a 1 piece shaft in my burb. (with no problem, smooth) any vibration with a balanced shaft would be caused my a lack of a proper angle. shafts need to have a min angle (drop) from front to back.

Yes, please post your install, I've been on the fence about this recently but I think the $3k would be made up fairly soon seeing as fuel prices keep going up.
Lemield, somebody in another thread told me I shouldn't get one because it would bog my engine too much due to having 3.08's. Sounds like you didn't have a problem? I've got a K10 shortie with a 350 (.30 over) and a sm465/np205. Any thoughts? Thanks

i have heard people having a drop in mpg using a gear vendoer with 3.08s
not sure about that though.

The other thing to consider is that it doesn't just improve your mileage and RPM on the highway, but it allows you to keep the RPM's where you want them at just about any speed, be it around town, towing, etc. Right now, most of our non-overdrive trucks have one gear above about 45 MPH or so, maybe 2 if you rev the crap out of it. Now you'll have between 2 and 4 GEARS to choose from at those same speeds. Most of the time, you're not going to shift it 8 times getting on the freeway, but when you need those in between gears, you've got 'em. The driveability just goes through the roof!

well they said its on the truck, and of course it needs someone to be home to deliver...lol that isnt possible. now it says they tried to deliver at 130 today...um, no they didn’t. i get home expecting a sticker and there is nothing on my door...wtf.... customer service is closed. no way to tell them to take it off the %$#(@ ing truck and ill pick it up at the warehouse.....why must everything be a pain in the ass. it.

Don't feel bad. At least it made it there, it's just still on the truck.
I had UPS "lose" a custom suspension order. It was insured but the vendor has to wait 30 days before UPS will pay out. Well... on day 30 (now that I have waited the extra 30 days with the car torn apart), the package "magically" shows up back at the vendor. The vendor had to pay to re-ship it (on their dime) and I had to wait another week from then. I HATE UPS!!!!! Won't even talk about the last large package they dropped off. Had I been the driver, I would have been ashamed to have left a package in that condition with anyone. Good luck man!
