Re: 1 ton springs? need ideas
mrbeast, i could get the hole front half of a 4x4 frams with everything on it tomorow if i wanted, thats no problem i just dont have the fundage for it right now. dont get me wrond id absolutaly love to make it a 4x4.. but i cant afford to have it hung up for that long right now so i just kinda want to make it a 4x4 wannabe right now haha. to be honest ill probably just save up and buy a 4x4 before i do a 4x4 swap. alot less hastle

No its got a pair of ranchos that have been trimmed a bit because they sat on the upper bump stop and rode like poo but still rather tall if you want more get a body lift

Re: 1 ton springs? need ideas
You wont be able to get the front that hight, what you have depicted there is a 4x4 with a 2.5" lift kit.
The problem with trying to lift your 2wd that much is that the A arms will swing down so far they will be at a really hard angle, and your ball joints will bind, and when that happens they can seperate, you lose your steering when your front wheel comes off, and if this happens at speed you can have a really violent accident.

Re: 1 ton springs? need ideas
You can raise it about an inch before you are going to run into issues. requiriung lots of money, fabrication and time.

I would do the inch and 31/s and call it good until you can get a 4x4. Right now you are kind of trying to go bobsleding with a rocking horse if you get what I am saying. Jist out of curiosity, how old are you?

Re: 1 ton springs? need ideas
or you can throw some Interco Thornbirds on there. I've seen a couple of stock Jeeps that look decent with those crazy lugs. You can get them in 29". I'd never buy them though. they wear funny

I am going to assume then that you are like 15/16 and this is your first truck. there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, we all started there. We all have to pay our dues and learn the lessons that come with working on these old trucks. you do seem really eager to me, take it from me though you have nothing but time. I know at your age that you can be really impatient, god knows I was, but you know some times you have to sit back and realize that the thing you want right now is not possible, but if you play your cards right in 6 months to a year it can be. It is too bad you all do not live closer to me, I would offer to let you come over and give you a hand stuffing the 4x4 parts in your truck. But I am sure there are plenty of opportunites around where you are at to get it done. Something you might consider as well is finding a rusted out 4x4 for like a grand and swapping bodies and motors, that is a good 2 week project there if you dont go crazy. I know you can raise a grand in 6 months to a year, hell you could get 2-5 togeather if you work hard at it.

Oh I do, I almost bought a 88 dually crew cab out of minnesota, the paint was beautiful, turned out the under carage was more rust than metal. I backed out.

Re: 1 ton springs? need ideas
yeah, that salt up north is killer, I hated it when I was driving over the road, every time id come up that way with my semi it would rust something and id wash it as soon as I got out of the salt. I was always touching something up.

Re: 1 ton springs? need ideas
if you really want to lift it just body lift it 3" i knew a guy running 2" of hockey pucks on top of a 3" body lift on his ranger and it held up as a daily driver with a bit of offroad abuse. im pretty sure that a 3"body lift would suit you fine
oh and dont talk to me about salted roads and rust there a reason why i have agricultural plates on my truck, theres nothing left of the rockers and floor

Re: 1 ton springs? need ideas
i like beefy springs in the back for trailer towing and softer in the front for ride comfort, but 1/2 ton axles can only take so much beating.
