Re: AD Truck Project
It was nice to finally put a face to the name. Keep cracking on the project man! If nothing else we'll have to start having the mini meets end at someone's house to help with their projects.

Re: AD Truck Project
those core supports hold the whole front end together they have a tendency to fail. mine was missing 4" of metal in the middle, it probably fell off 15 years ago.... if you do repair it i would go a bit over kill it needs to be strong

Re: AD Truck Project
I bet that is what happened. There has clearly been metal added and it is too wide. The piece with the latch did not line up.

Re: AD Truck Project
First post to this thread, cool truck. Love the GMC, but I have a chevy 51' and actually bed, doors, fenders etc for a GMC, so I wanna do one.
Anyway I just read yesterday (don't know the link) to the differences in GMC vs Chevy. Back then there were differences. Such as longer engines thus making inner fenders different and frames longer. GMC were actually designed as a truck, more so than the chevy. So I am wondering if your rad support was from a chevy and someone put it on there and modified it? If I recall the GMC radiators were different as well, so the rad support was prolly different. I have two of them and I can take a look at them, one chevy one gmc. Can you take some pics of it? Also if you are mounting this to the chevy inner fender that might be throwing you off, try mounting to the gmc innner fender. Just an idea, I never worked with GMC stuff to this degree really and have yet to get to my front end stuff. You could just make your own too. subscribed

Re: AD Truck Project
My stuff was not together just a pile when we got it. After taking the front fenders down I have 1 gmc and one chevy. My inner fenders are front a chevy. They fit the chevy fender fine and a little off on the gmc. So, that kinda supports your comment. If you could measure your core supports that would be great. I want to build a gmc, but I am still at the point if I end up with more good chevy parts than gmc I will switch.

Re: AD Truck Project
yeah, for sure I'll shoot some pics and measure the supports.
i know they looked different. I am pretty sure the first one I got was GMC cause that is what all the other parts were and a matter of fact I have one GMC inner fender. Too bad you weren't so far away, we could trade inner fenders! I'll try and get those pics in the next couple hours.

Re: AD Truck Project
No rush.
I wonder if I had a full chevy clip minus the grill I could then use the gmc outer grill shell and then the bars. I know that part mounted the the chevy and gmc fenders just fine.

Re: AD Truck Project
My cab corners have arrived. I knew they were here by the sound of them bouncing off the side of my house and landing on the porch. I guess the ups man is in a bit of hurry since we have freezing rain. I was happy to see how large the patches are. They should take care of my bad spots nicely.

Re: AD Truck Project
The corners are staged on boxes I just have not taken them yet since I am technically on the clock right now.

Re: AD Truck Project
Ok, well here is the rad support for the 48' GMC, or atleast all the
other parts were and I am strongly assuming this was from it as well. The measurements are 28 3/8" in height by 22 3/4" wide, it also has two triangular lips that bolt on the side. The hood latch sits on this rad support. Hope this helps. I thought I had another chevy one here but there is no way it came from these trucks. Also my 51' chevy is at my friends garage where I am working on it, so I can't get the measurements. I can dig up some pics but I don't think they are that good. Please send pics of what you have.

Re: AD Truck Project
I am sorry, I wrote in the reply 22 3/4" wide, but it is 23 3/4" wide, like the
picture shows.

Are you kidding me? I love it. Not too crazy about the ice though. I'm fixing to load the chains and tires in the truck and go vehicle fishing for a few hours.
