Re: Factory Tow Hooks

was 2-3 fronts in the classifieds yesterday. keep your eyes peeled in the 67-72 classifieds too. i see them on ebay quite a bit. the fronts are more common than the rears, but the rears can be purchased reproduced.

Re: Factory Tow Hooks

Here is the link for the front tow hooks that were just advertised the other day(as 1963c-10 mentions above) in the '60-'66 classifieds:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=605053

He had 2 sets I believe, but may not last long.

Heres some extreme bends 67-72 but they aren't cheap. Will work on the 60-66 though

Re: Factory Tow Hooks

Any new additions? Heres a few pics of the hooks I'm putting on the front of the step side. I'll drill the lower hole once the front ends off tomorrow since I'll have better frame access. But mocked up and I think placement looks good.

Agreed. Take some pics through the process. I'm fixing to do the same with mine just ran into the lower hole problem myself. Lol

Re: Factory Tow Hooks

No problem. I think that taking the upper bolt slot up just about 3/8" will give all the clearance needed on the bottom hole that I'll have to drill. I'll be on it this weekend as I've got help removing the front end tonight.

Re: Factory Tow Hooks

Ended up going with the hole just in front of the radiator support. Drilled it out to 9/16", trimmed a little of the radiator support and drilled the lower holes. Plenty of clearance on the bumper, puts the tow hook just about 1" clearance from the curl in the hook to the frame. Was much easier with the front end off, but I believe with the front bumper and outer brackets removed it could be done with no issue. You will need to thick 9/16" washers to place behind the top mount of the hook, just due to the design of the hook. I used all 9/16" grade 8 hardware.

Nice. I have that winch bumper that I'm gonna use so hopefully that will come in handy.

Re: Factory Tow Hooks

Yeah....that might give you more option to mount also.

The current location should be around 1" - 1 1/2" back from post 25 as I have them mounted now.

Not sure, but I do use my trucks and wanted them. I looked at aftermarket hooks, but really wanted factory hooks. I have never personally seen a 1/2 ton truck with them from 60-66, seen a few in pics and I've seen some 67-72's with them. Not sure if they were dealer or owner installed. I have seen a few 3/4 ton's and some 4x4's with them.

I have the factory rear hooks also and will probably get more use out of them. The front hooks I've had a few years and figured it was as good time as any to install since the front end was stripped.

Re: Factory Tow Hooks

And for the purist.....front tow hooks in 1963 were ordering # 57-3 option # v76 and list price was $12.00, factory delivery/handling was $.95 and Mfr. suggested retail was $12.95

Well you posted this just in time I am going to install mine tomorrow and didn't know where to put mine. They don't line up with the predrilled holes in the front frame rails, so it looks like I will be drilling new holes too.

Yeah, I looked at the factory holes too, and the long oblong one was my 1st choice....but after getting the front end off, I'm much happier with where I installed them. Let me know how it goes for you.
