Thank you. It is my home shop. It's been my dream for a while. 32'x48' pole barn with an upstairs that is 14'x48'. It's really a bit smaller than my initial dream of 40'x100', but I can always add on to this later if finances permit

Thanks bro And thanks again for your hospitality. It was great meeting you as well. Yes I was a bit nervous about the baby straps so we re-enforced them with some more substantial straps first thing the next morning.

Re: Project Pops (1980 C10 Build Project)

Got the cab ripped off. Almost literally....the front two bolts for the cab mounts were a bit stubborn. The impact wrench would not move them so I borrowed my father in law's 3/4" drive socket set that he uses for his farm equipment. That moved the one on the driver side, but it ended up just tearing what was left of the bracket off of the cab. It freed it up though

Here are some pics.

Re: Project Pops (1980 C10 Build Project)

Got the rad support off finally. I took it off yesterday morning, but my time was limited because I was going in for knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus and remove a bone fragment. So I was not able to get the drivetrain pulled yet.

Re: Project Pops (1980 C10 Build Project)

I was hoping to clean the radiator up and re-use it as I thought it was in better shape. It was a newer replacement (LOL--10 years ago). Although the truck only got driven about 3K/year for the past 10 years I guess sitting outside does more damage in our climate than driving.

Looks like you've got some work ahead of you man. Good job so far. I am so glad I don't have to deal with the rust issues you northern guys do.

Yes sir I do. Fortunately I bought a parts truck with a 100% solid rust free frame that I will be cleaning up/repainting so that I can rebuild Pops on a solid foundation. Thans for your good wishes.

Re: Project Pops (1980 C10 Build Project)

I just have to add that I can't wait to get to the stage where all the rust is gone and I am cleaning, painting, and reassembling. I look at the other threads like Menace and Glock and those builds are just gorgeous. Oh well. I'll get there sooner or later.

Hi Dan,

It's good to know there is a local friend on the board. You are welcome to swing by in the evening some time. I would love to have some additional input on both of my projects. If you drive the thruway from Cuse to Rochester I live just one exit off of 690 in Baldwinsville. Right now I am recovering from knee surgery and on crutches so it will be a few weeks before I can get back to working on these projects, but I would be happy to walk through the shop with you. Thanks for the offer.

Charlie

I know how that is. My kids are turning 7 and 4 soon. They seem to just grow faster as time goes on. Coincidentally my gray hairs seem to spread in the same fashion.

Re: Project Pops (1980 C10 Build Project)

I AM ABSOLUTELY STOKED!

I just picked up my new sandblasting cabinet at Harbor Freight. I got the free standing floor model. They had them on sale for $219 (normally $299). I talked myself into it because the sale ended today. The bad news is it takes an air flow rate of over 9CFM so I'm going to have to go after work and purchase a brand new 60 Gallon Air compressor at Home Depot

I will get the cabinet assembled and air compressor installed over the long Memorial Day weekend. Then I will post some pics of my updated shop! Once that is done it will be time to obliterate some rust and paint up some frames and suspension parts on a couple of project trucks!

Thanks Dennis! I was a little worried about the blasting cabinet because I read a couple bad reviews on the HF version, but I think it will work out okay.

will A-arms and big stuff fit in there? put enough air to it and it will be fine. worse comes to worse use the gun and put the hose in a 5 gallon bucket to do the big stuff.

Yes...they certainly will fit in there. The reviews I read suggested that the door latch was cheap and prone to break and the unit needed its seems sealed with silicone to keep the dust contained. Those are things I can handle for the cheap price I got it for. It takes 9CFM's of air pressure and the compressor I'm picking up today should be able to handle that just fine.

Re: Project Pops (1980 C10 Build Project)

Finally got myself back to where I can get some work done since my knee surgery 5 weeks ago. Got the engine/tranny out. Oh...and got my new 60 gallon compressor installed! I LOVE it so much more than my little 1 gallon HF Pancake compressor!
