Re: my 50 build... why not?

thanks guys. yeah it was a fun night. im suprised no one else has burnout videos on here! i cant be the only young guy here. heck, im sure 90% of you are still young at least at heart.

after i did it, a 33 ford coupe "tried" then shelled the trans, a 81 camaro did a one wheel wonder, and a couple ford pickups had one wheelers.

Re: my 50 build... why not?

Nebdrummer, I have a 3/4 ton,and was wanting to lower the rearend of my truck, and saw where you flipped your spring perches. Do I have to do any drilling if I am just flipping the perches. Would appreciate any input from you.
The rearend on my truck is under the springs also. I have an S10,4WD under there now. I had 456gears in the old rearend,I now have 373gears now,and with the overdrive tranny, I thing I will be alright. The previous owner said it a 200R? in there now, and I have a 350sbc,4bolt main, with a mild cam. I just want mine to be a cruiser, and keep up with the rest of traffic flow. I would appreciate any comments you have. Also the marks you have on your driveshaft, is that because the lowering? Thanks

Re: my 50 build... why not?

hey chevy51, the marks in the driveshaft were because of a combination of wheel hop and axle wrap. (during racing) when i lowered the rear, i also took out one more leaf spring (3 left), which was one too many. i had 4 leafs on the rear previously, with no problems what so ever, so stick to 4 leafs minimum.

yes you do have to drill 3 new holes. on the first page, i explain which holes ya had to drill. very easy to do.

another thing, the cross member right under the cab gets REALLY close to the driveshaft under full compression. but i also have a big 4" driveshaft.

other than that, you should be just fine flipping it. just keep it to 4 springs minimum, and you should be able to put it through any abuse and be fine.

Wheelie, twas fun... your screen name is the next goal on my list. haha

Re: my 50 build... why not?

Thanks, Nebdrummer, I appreciate the info,I am glad I read about the way you did the flip, I had about given up on being able to find where someone had did the lowering on a 3/4 ton. I really enjoyed all the work you have done on your truck. Really enjoyed the burnouts, also. Nice Ride,Thanks again,by the way what size bolts did you use, when you bolted everything back together. I am no mechanic so sometimes I have to ask dumb questions.

Re: my 50 build... why not?

hey, not a problem! the only way to learn is to ask questions and self experience. but no, I didnt flip the fronts, only the rears. i used 1.25" 3/8 grade 8 bolts from the local hardware store.

Re: my 50 build... why not?

Re: my 50 build... why not?

thanks, and oh i know about boost being addictive. i had a little fwd plymouth laser with a FMIC and a manual boost controller. it would roast the tires off in 3rd! haha

another buddy from chicago is selling his second supra. and both of them have been 750whp+ cars. and i cant get enough of it when i go out to visit. this 75mm should fill my needs for a long time to come, and if it doesnt, its just a simple swap of turbos. i'd just step up to the s480. theres 8 second cars running that. and this truck does NOT need to go that fast. hahaha

thats gotta be a pretty nice and snappy f-150. and hey, as for blowers for your 50 go, the good ol' weiands fit under the hood oh so perfectly!

I am glad to see you already did it so I know it works...lol

Re: my 50 build... why not?

no, the turbo pictured that i had, was just a little HX2, the size around hx35-40. i sold that for 350 bucks. I now have a Borg warner S475 from turbo daves. I think it should fit the bill nicely.

Im hoping to make all my power goals on pump gas. 600 wheel around 10lbs -750 wheel at 15ish lbs. I may be running meth with this setup, maybe not. intercooler is also still in the air, but may be unneeded seeing how the turbo is going to be mid mounted.

Ill cross that bridge when i get to it i guess.

I should be updating this more frequently beings im basically going to do another frame off on this truck. 9" 4 link, trans, motor, turbo, body and paint! again!!

Re: my 50 build... why not?

Sexy truck! I have a 51 3600, tons of pics posted on Shorty's 51

Glad to have caught this for flipping the rear perch.

Out of curiosity, and reason a guy couldn't flip the front?
I have some long gussets going in at the front due to a shotty spot in the frame, and so it would make sense since I have to remove that perch and the rear step mount anyway.

I am already in the process of notching, so I may even add a 1/4 or 1/2" plate to bring the perch up even higher and gain a little more drop.

Seriously... glad I saw this... honestly, such a good idea and the thought didn't even cross.... I was like, well, I can't slide it up like I did on my 74 cause it wraps the bottom.... ahahhahhahahahaha

Good job.

Anyone see why you couldn't flip the front one????

Re: my 50 build... why not?

ahhh... if I brought up the front it would screw up the angle of the rear end for sure.

Answered it on my own.

Well... Front will go back on at the bottom, rear will flip.

Thanks for letting me find this

Re: my 50 build... why not?

thanks!

any lower than what I have it, and you will have 1, driveshaft rubbing issues on the crossmember right under the rear of the cab, 2 axle wrap horrible if any less than 4 leafs per side, and wheel hop. It sure does make for a smooth ride though!

I suppose if you made a small c notch for the driveshaft on that front crossmember, and your obvious c notch, im sure it would work great.

heres the final picture of where im at so far. I LOVE IT!!!

Re: my 50 build... why not?

9'' is welded back up. I ended up putting a back brace on it for extra peace of mind. Axles will be ordered this week, and I have to pick up some 3/16'' steel to start doing my framework. Once I get my axles, then I can do my first mock-up and start my measuring to put on the 4 link! :chacha:

I got the old nasty booster off the firewall, ripped most of the wiring back into the cab, and kept all the motor wiring with the motor. My plans for wiring, is going to make a one big connector plug to go from the frame to the cab. This way, i can do all of my wiring when i get the bed/cab off the frame. and it will make for a nice clean look.

Heater is pulled out, I'm going with a different and smaller unit than the factory one. It shouldn't need anything more than that, because this time it will be sealed up good.

BUY ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
