Re: Finally!!! 67 C10
Man what a find, and it sounds like you have a pretty good list of future upgrades.
One thing I will tell you is this... it is only original once. The original paint... only original once. There are several guy's (including myself) that would kill to locate an original paint (patina'd) SWB like that. Nothing looks better than an original truck lowered with a nice set of wheels. Any other rust issues? How's the inside of the bed since it had a camper on it? Again, congrats on the truck, and I hope that I didn't come across like I didn't like your plans. Be sure to start a build thread when you start working on it.

Also, after I got home from hauling it, as soon as I stepped out of my truck, there was a strong smell of gas. I opened the door of the truck and the floor boards were wet with gas, so there is a leak in the behind the seat tank somewhere. I leaned the seat forward, and by looking at the tank I assume it has been replaced sometime. The gas line looked fine, and the fitting did not look to be the source of the leak, and neither did the filler neck. Seams on the sides looked fine, so I can only assume the leak is coming from the rear of the tank somewhere. I plan on switching to an under the bed tank anyway, so I guess I will just do it a little sooner than planned if the leak is not an easy fix. (Another reason, why I have not attempted to start it yet, I will probably just put a short piece of hose to a gas jug to see if I can get it running). And I understand you completely about the patina. First priority is getting it running, then I will start going through it, upgrading it as I get to it. I will probably run the patina look for a few years. Right now I am trying to track down the missing trim from the drivers rear fender, as well as maybe a new piece for the passenger front fender. Looking for used pieces though, so it all matches somewhat and keeps the "patina" look. After fixing a few pieces, and patching that rust, I will probably go ahead with the drop, and probably run some Corvette style rallys, 15x8 in the front and 15x10 in the rear with some meaty tires. Guess I'm a little partial to that look though: Then, since I plan on upgrading to power steering and power disk brakes, I will probably hold off on that till I decide to swap in a LS series motor and a 5/6 speed, and do it at the same time, probably with a hydraboost brake setup. Then after I've got it about where I want it drive train-wise, I will tear it back down and paint it how I want it, and then probably go to some nice chrome wheels. If it was an original big block truck, or something of that sort I might would consider restoring it to original, but since it was a bare bones 6cyl truck I don't feel too bad about changing it up. Besides, I will NEVER sell it, so value means nothing to me, and I have always loved 67-68 C10s, and always envisioned how I would set one up to be just what I want. But like I said I am a poor college student, searching for a job after I graduate this spring, and I am getting married in the fall, so this will be a long, slow project, and the patina look will stick around for a few years. Also, I found this picture. I'm on the right, and the original owner is on the left. This was taken in 95, so I was 8 at the time, and he was 83. I'd also like to get this picture retouched/restored, to keep in the truck, as reminder of it's history. So if anyone knows of a good place to do that, for not too much $$ let me know.

The more I look at your truck, it reminds me of this one....it's owned by an elder gentleman that visits the landfill I work at.....It is bone stock....the only item on the SPID is vinyl seat

Re: Finally!!! 67 C10
You have some great plans for the truck, and the story behind it is about as good as it gets. I wish you the best and you might even be surprised with that little 6 banger, but then again I'm partial.
Beautiful truck and best of luck with it in the future. I know the previous owner will be proud the thing is still being loved as he did from the day purchased it. Congratulations on graduation as well as the upcoming marriage!

And base model, and vinyl seat are the only two codes on the SPID of this truck as well. Also that one you pictured has another option mine doesn't: Passenger side mirror. (My 70 Chevelle only had drivers side mirror as well.) Quote:

Re: Finally!!! 67 C10
I love these stories. I wish I could have got my Grampas truck and believe it or not he actually died in it. He put 13 cinder blocks in the back of his truck because it was Icy and was heading to the house and he had a massive heart attack and died. Grandma found him slumped over with his foot still on the clutch and the engine running. It was a 66 Long Fleet with all the bells an wistles but my Cousin beat me to it because he lived near my Grandparents. Not long after he got it he wrapped it around a telephone pole and that was the end of that truck (Cousin had a few bruises). Glad to see you got your Grandpa's truck.

Re: Finally!!! 67 C10
I agree with 72BlkBeauty, my old neighbor has one exactly like it, original owner, he wants $2500 for it, I been saving to take it off his hands but something always comes up. There's always the risk someone else will buy it but no one has in the last 20 years but you never know.

Some body photo shop his truck with a 5/7 drop and some 18x10" and 18x8" rally wheels on that awesome patina the truck has going, at most i would add a gaylords tonneau cover matching the paint!

Re: Finally!!! 67 C10
No real updates, it is torn down to the bare frame currently, we've been building a house, so once I get the 3 car garage finished I have a bay just for this truck so I'll have no more excuses and I'll get to work!
Thanks!

Re: Finally!!! 67 C10
Well...since the last time you bumped this, oh about this time last year, we had just found out we were going to be having a kid, she's 7 months now and getting big, needless to say, the garage isn't finished, and the truck is still in storage at my parents house... Now we just found out we have another on the way soo...I might get this done when I retire in 50 years... Keep bumping it to give me the kick in the rear I need But.... Since we all like pictures, and it does need an update even if it's not all truck related. The frame is currently sitting inside my parents shop, bare, waiting to be taken to the blaster, but currently doing a fine job as a table/dog bed. IMG_20130223_112556_608 by wrfalcon75, on Flickr I did acquire a low mileage 5.3, a flywheel and clutch to adapt it to the existing 3 speed (yea, I'm a little nostalgic), fuel system is all worked out, and I have already thinned a harness. I have acquired probably 90% of the parts I need to put it together, including front power disc brakes, suspension, exhaust, interior stuff, etc. I just need to find the time to get to work on it. I did help my father in law pick up a 69 K5 to work on, Though it was in pretty bad shape and has had some setbacks Annnd the reasons why I haven't been getting any work done? Here is the house, about this time last year, a couple months before we moved in 30 by wrfalcon75, on Flickr And the garage, aka future home of the 67, 30x36 34 by wrfalcon75, on Flickr 40 by wrfalcon75, on Flickr The red dually is currently taking up residence in the 67's bay until I clear out a bay in the barn for it, and move the 67 in to work on. Untitled by wrfalcon75, on Flickr It's a bit of a squeeze...(9' door...the dually is 105" wide at the tires...) Untitled by wrfalcon75, on Flickr But once inside there is decent room to work, especially considering the 67 will be a few feet narrower overall... Untitled by wrfalcon75, on Flickr Gotta have a place to work right? Untitled by wrfalcon75, on Flickr And tools to do the work Untitled by wrfalcon75, on Flickr Now the project is to clean up the rest of the move in boxes etc. from the garage, and finish up some honey-do's for the wife so I can actually do some work in here. AND the biggest reason I get nothing done... (notice, not even a day old here, and already practicing the wolfpack hand symbol, she's about got it with her right hand!) Untitled by wrfalcon75, on Flickr Untitled by wrfalcon75, on Flickr IMG_78768488466838 by wrfalcon75, on Flickr Duhnduhnduhnn.... (dramatic music) the sequel is coming! Re: Finally!!! 67 C10
All good reasons to have the Chevy on the back burner! What a beautiful baby! Awesome truck and a gorgeous new garage....is there a house attached to that sweet garage? LOL!
My question, totally unrelated to the truck is, What color and brand of siding did you put on your house? We are residing and that looks similar to what we are planning but have yet to find a suitable pic .... Cam |
