Re: 1948 Chevy Project
subscribed,
like the work. those ujoints look nice. Where did you get em? They are not cheap new. I picked up some slightly bigger looking ones from conversion van at the junk yard. didn't cost much at all. The lower one mounts right up to my power steering and the upper will be connected with the D shaft and then to the stock column, pretty much what you got.

Re: 1948 Chevy Project
thanks fellas! the u-joints i think i got from CPP.
more work done on this rig... took for granted that the owner was using the correct S-10 frame only to find its the wrong length frame. so i had to take 3.5" out of it. decided to do it under the rear cab mount cause i could hide the cut from the side and the plate provided in the chassis kit can be welded to the frame making the new connection stronger, plus i box the inside of the frame at said location. i made 4 guides on the top and bottom inside the chassis. welded it to the one side after removing the 3.5" then slid the frame back into place using the guides. then weld the guides to the other frame half, followed my clamping the frame walls and welding those. then install the cab mount on the 2 bolt holes the did not change and weld it all the way around. i later moved the bed mounts back the same amount and welded those to the frame as well. bare frame getting final welds air compressor mounts (there will be 2) and rear of chassis required the same 3.5" only in length to support the rear of the bed flipped the frame upside down, to make welding much much easier trans cross-member tabs (looking at the bottom here) rear chassis boxing and chassis bag bracket (again looking at the bottom here) got the motor back from the machine shop! block is a 327, but its built as a 350 with just about all new internals. basically 0 mile motor now. cant wait to finish assembling the motor! the frame is currently getting sand-blasted and will receive some black paint shorty after. |

Re: 1948 Chevy Project
Great work on the frame. You make it look really easy. I didn't notice anywhere in the thread; where did you get the cab and bed mounts from, or did you make them?

Re: 1948 Chevy Project
plans are to get the frame painted satin black this weekend. in the mean time i finished shaving the firewall and then drilled the firewall for the brake booster kit. also working on getting the dash ready for paint. all the while the motor continues to take shape so that once the frame is painted and plumbed i can set the motor/trans on it.

Re: 1948 Chevy Project
thanks
getting the cab ready so when the frame is done i can mate the two. undercoated the cab floors: painted cab wells to protect for years to come: painted cab insides that wont be visible, gas tank area, under seat, firewall and floor pans for more protection: this weekend i plan to spray the frame in a satin black in order to plumb the brakes and install the drivetrain as well as order a driveshaft. in the mean time the cab firewall, dash and suspension components will receive factory style green paint and many other small parts are and will be getting painted to make the assembly a little quicker. |

Re: 1948 Chevy Project
I love 60-66 trucks as well. I am saving a 64' from the scrap yard.
I like your work. What air system are you using? Do you usually stick with the same brand and style? also it that running two compressors? I want to bag my 55.1 I think, either that or a 49' I got. Almost done with my 51' but it is not bagged. thanks Henry

Re: 1948 Chevy Project
i know progress has been slow on this build, much slower than i would like it to be at least. there are a lot of ducks that havent shown up yet and well, i just gotta pull them together so i can move this along.
some parts arrived for the motor, still missing some parts too... hey at least the steering and shifter is finished... |

Re: 1948 Chevy Project
What type of headers will you be installing and is there any clearance issues?

Re: 1948 Chevy Project
i prefer stock ram horn exhaust manifolds. personally i like the look, sound and fit. i already had mocked it up with them so there should not be any problems there. also ordered both turned back so the exhaust piping will be easier to route.

So how close to the factory green is what you used, and what did you use? Thanks!
