What kind of headers are you guys running on these? There is barely any clearance between the steering box and factory headers and I know aftermarket is going to run diffirent.

Im curious about how the army works im a teenager right now. How many hours do you get to spend working on your truck and how long do you have to be working for the army. Thanks

So today after work I will be heading down to get the fenders primed and and work on cleaning up the interior some more. Love my Job here in the Army. I wish I could have cleaned out my interior first so I could have shot everything at once but I had to get some primer on the outside before everything got rusty again since I store it outside. Thanks for all the comment keep them coming.

First of all I want to thank you for the service to our country and keeping us all safe and free.
Its cool to see another 4x4 on the board. Im building a 56 1/2 ton. Mine is an original NAPCO. Hopefully I will start a build thread soon.
Its tough to tell in your pics but it looks like it might not be a stock steering box. Can you post a better pic of your steering setup?

Thanks A.K. I can honestly say I do this job for the love of it. I got out once and just couldnt ajust so im in it for the long haul. The Steering box on the primered 58 I think is out of some other tuck i think But I will post up some other pictures this evening.

I got the new patch panel for the Dash installed. This is my second time welding in my life so I was a little nervous but it went O.K. It was pretty simple cut and weld then grind it back down. The only difficult thing was grinding the top of the weld because my grinder didnt want to stay where i was grinding but all in all its coming together

Going down to the shop to get the frame engine and transmission steam cleaned. I noticed some rust through on the frame. Im not sure if i should weld it up or try and find another frame

Got the engine and transmission steam cleaned. I noticed that one of the starter bolt holes is broken. Where the boltgoes into the block is cracked. man the guy who had this thing before really ripped me off or should my lack of experiance ripped me off

Like Orrie and I mentioned in another post. We neeed a support group. These old trucks are bad enough but we are weird enough to add 4 wheel drive in the mix. All the extra components to deal with besides bringing an old truck back to life.
Like another drive axle, hubs, gears, transfer case, mounts, another driveline, linkages, ****er, blah blah blah...
But I've had 4x4s since I was 18 growing up in Oregon then moving to Alaska and I wouldnt have it any other way!! Hang in there man.

Born in '57 raised in Medford, moved to AK in '81. I still love the PNW. Might retire there someday. Closer to cheap parts!! Freight to AK kills me.

I just picked up some hooker super comp headers and they fit around the stock steering perfectly. The part number is 2819-1HKR. They are pretty expensive from most places, but I stumbled across a set on the Holley ebay store as scratch and dent this month and got them for 80% off! Last I checked there was another set up for bids on their site.

Painted the frame last weekend with black rustoleum paint....looked good went with a satin black finish

So got some primer put on mounted the engine and tranny with my super sweet mounts now just need to pick of my shortened drive shaft from the diveline shop and were good to go. Have been busy with deployment stuff so more pics are comming

You made the comment about going to a 700r-4, I would like to voice my opinion and let you know that the 200-4r is a MUCH more stout transmission to build. I don't know why it doesnt get the credit it deserves. Cost wize, the 700r-4 costs way more to build than a 200-4r in comparison to what kind of power they can handle.

Are you planning on keeping the Napco under the truck? Napco is way cool!

Thanks for the advice! I'm not sure what i am gonna do napco. Right now its still on the 58 frame in the garage. I'm deployed right now and I have not had much time really even think about it. I will be home on vacation in April and where I do my best thinking is sitting in the garage looking at "Mater". So that's when I will prob make a decision on how i am gonna move forward. Side note man do I miss working on that truck with my 4 Boys and Daughter.....cant wait to get back!

Same boat as you although a bit farther along on the project. I look at this as a good opportunity to save money for more parts. Just think, you have plenty of leave when you get back to get a lot of work done.

When I got back I paid off my truck and bought my Yukon CASH!! I didnt run my A/C for six months after getting back either
