Re: Remember when this was legal?

the good ole' days...my ole man had an old early 70's ford pickup with a camper shell on the back. we used to head out to blue grass festival every spring with a mattress in the bed and a blanket. we'd make the long trek across the country with no seat belts or anything.

i love taking trips down memory lane. my daughter loves riding in the front seat, she's driven the tractor around....she's not bad but gets side tracked and is all over the place. luckily i am right there to keep her from running into a barn or fence post lol

Re: Remember when this was legal?

When I was a kid, my Dad had F**D trucks. He had a sweet 56 short bed that was a real pale green with a Fordomatic transmission. That truck could bounce me to sleep on the front seat in a matter of minutes. Later on, he had a 71 F**D F100 that he put a folding convertible type topper on. He built a couple of removable bench type beds down each side and had some foam cut to fit. When we went up to Canada for our annual vacation, my brother and I would ride in the back, with my sister up front with Mom and Dad, with the truck pulling the boat loaded with all our camping gear. He also had a 65 with a 352 and 3 on the tree that I drove at 16. He complained that that truck was very hard on right rear tires. (that thing would lay a single peel forever). Thanks for bringing back some great memories.

Re: Remember when this was legal?

I'll never forget the good time's cruisin in the back of my aunt and uncle's 64 Impala station wagon and then their new 71 Impala wagon along with my mom, dad, grandmom, two sisters, myself, and my three cousins bouncing around jumping to the front and back all while heading out to my uncle's secret spot to drag net for crabs. Me and my cuss always got in some trouble with our sisters and them crabs and three feet eels on the ride home. We still laugh to this day. AAAnnnd also thanks to them hippie's at the red light in their green VW yelling to my dad that their son's is being choked to death by the power window he closed around my neck, I loved that 67 Chevy Caprice, sure do miss that car.

Re: Remember when this was legal?

I broke my nose against my Grandpa's, now my '66 Panel's dashboard. He cut out of work early one Friday and took me at 5 or 6 yrs old to the bar and as we were getting there and parking he hit the car in front of us and I shot into the dash. He was so scared to face my mother. Lol. I remember the going to the dump with the tailgate down and hatch closed on my Dad's '72 Jimmy and we got to wave at the people behind us. And I'll never forget the outdoor theater in that Jimmy. I think I saw Jaws and E.T. this way. All wrapped up in our little sleeping bags and eating a whole bag of Twizzlers.... good stuff. I hope to do all the same with my son, except breaking his nose.

Re: Remember when this was legal?

We used to ride in the bed of my dad's F-100 in the early '70s. We had to keep an eye out for empty beer cans my dad and his best buddy would fold in half and whip into the bed. Perfectly legal back then.
One time, while standing on the bench seat, my mom hit a railroad crossing and I bounced like a ping pong ball, hitting my head three times on the roof. It hurt, but it's still a great memory.

Re: Remember when this was legal?

Cool thread, cool picture.

My dad had a 66 Impala back when I was a kid. What the hell was up with the big metal speaker in the back seat? Bashed my head on that so many times from dad "power shifting" that I now have a backwards Impala symbol in the back of my head.

My barber is always asking about it.

Re: Remember when this was legal?

Like Rob H. I remember riding up on the stock racks. Dad had a new 64 GMC long narrow that had heavy duty wood sideboards that stuck up at least 18" above the cab. My brother and I would ride standing on the third board up with our heads at least 4 feet obove the cab. On the dirt roads of backwoods Arkansas the trick was to not get knocked off by limbs. Antics like that nowadays would get the Dept. of Human Services on your case.

Young, broke, and stupid. Three weeks, 14 thousand miles, and 600 bucks each (three guys). 400 bucks was for gas.

The pictures need to be scanned - I'll post a thread on it when I get them in the computer.

i also remember a time riding in the back of my ole' mans ferd pickup driving thru yes thru a tree...i think it was either in alaska or arizona or something, but it was so cool as a kid doing that. i can still picture driving thru that to this day...just wish i knew where it was so i could take my kiddo to that place

Here ya go. with 20's and 15's. 20's are bent because of low profile tires and waiting to straighten.

Moronic huh? That's just good memories that everybody else here seems to share. Sorry you don't have any good memories. Your dad must have owned a Toyota. hehe I really don't appreciate you judging me, by the way, they are belted in with the original seat belts. They enjoy every minute of it and if we happen to go then it was God's good will. Have a nice day. Oh and lighten up a little bit.
