Re: WIW 1/2 ton CCSB
I don't think I'd be too worried about up to 150k as long as I could pull a valve cover or the oil pan and get a look in it to make sure it's been serviced regularly, but $1500 seems kinda high for that many miles...

Re: WIW 1/2 ton CCSB
I have heard of these motors going well into the 250K range so I really would worry, however I would definately crack it open and llok, also I would agree with the if over say 150K or so, price would need to be cheap for sure.

Re: WIW 1/2 ton CCSB
The $1500 was for engine, trans, accessories, wiring, everything to make it run. It wasn't so much the price that bothered me, but the mileage. I had a truck in the shop a few weeks ago with 390K on it, so I know they will run forever. I just hate to have to pull it if it breaks on me.

900
for all of that included, I would possibly offer 1200.00 mentioning the mileage ( you can just act dumb for that moment) and tell him you will load it up now, then see where he goes. but first take a valve cover off and also look at the dipstick and trans dipstick, but you probably know all that. sorry if I stepped on your toes man.
i looked at LKQ and for the motor only with 100K they want $750, so maybe that would be a good deal, they have them with under 50K for $1100.00 but that is engine alone.

Re: WIW 1/2 ton CCSB
I've been looking at LKQ also, saw a few 125K 5.3's for $575.
And some 4.8's for $450....I wonder how much more it would be to get it with the accessories, wiring, and computer...... Posted via Mobile Device

Re: WIW 1/2 ton CCSB
That's a yard I deal with all of the time (they just love it when I mention 73-91 trucks....). The accessories seem to add up pretty quick, too. I would imagine pulling the wiring harnesses and all would be a PITA compared to just unbolting and pulling an engine.
When I called LKQ, they do not sell an engine as a pull out. Everything is dismantled and sold seperately.

Re: WIW 1/2 ton CCSB
I would call and ask, worse case you say thank you and hang up. The one experience I had with them was very positive and I would buy from them again. I would call and ask them for a low mileage ( fill in your upper level here) motor with all accessories and PCM/harness, then also ask for the trans too. they might include the acc and pcm/harness if you buy the trans and motor together, ya never know. I think I have a contact for the one in Hutchins Texas if that is where your going....let me know if you want it, the contact could be just a sales rep though, she has been good to me and another friend before.
DUH!!! I didnt read what Jonboy wrote. stupid me....there is another group that does the pull out thing though....I am looking for that info....

Re: WIW 1/2 ton CCSB
I usually use Robert @ RCS in Tyler. They deliver to me daily. I hve been using them for about 10 years here at the shop. If you want to check them, it's 1-800-259-4020.

Re: WIW 1/2 ton CCSB
On the LS swap, I found the same deal with 59K on it. I passed the deal on to a friend, but I think my '74 will be up for it as soon as the next one comes around.

Re: WIW 1/2 ton CCSB
heck I know all that very well, it is why I went with the 4.8/4l60e. but knowing what I know now, I should have done it in stages kinda....like did a 700r4 waited a few months, then the 4.8, but since I did mine there is alot more info out there to help us do the swaps. I threw good money away cuz I listened to someone and didnt check their facts first. I also bit off alot more than I should have. I did the motor, trans, brakes, wiring harness, not to mention the fuel system for the LS, motor harness, radiator and more all at once, in my carport, during winter ( yes it WAS cold in Texas!) I was way overwhelmed, but with my dad's help and this forum along with LS1tech forum, we got it done ( 7months of after work and weekends that I didnt have my kids) and it is sweet.

Re: WIW 1/2 ton CCSB
The Blazer is still fun, but it isn't a pickup truck . I wished I had kept Bob! I would really like to find me a midpoint CCSB so I could finish it to my taste. Yours is gonna be great!
