Went to the 1st Annual "Hot Rod Rumble" in Fredricksburg Va on Saturday. This show was formerly known as the "69 and back" show. I had a blast and gained a lot of inspiration for my next project. Very cool show, no dash plaques, each car was greeted by kids running up and handing the drivers an RC Cola and a Moon Pie.

Hot Rod Rumble pictures................Sadly my battery died but I did manage to get a few.

I picked up a few items at a yard sale, again for my next project. Also setup some garage "art" out front.

Sold my K5 to 87 dually burb on Saturday and went with the wife and girls to the beach for the night. The house was quiet when I got home (they are staying until Tuesday). Sad to say I was too tired to fo anything to the truck. I did manage to get a new to me transmission cross member from 87' dually burb for my 82' though. Also scored some Bell Tech drop spindles for $ 125. Don't know if they are for 1" or 1 1/4" rotors but, if I need to change out the rotors and the calipers, no big deal

Went and drug a SWB frame home for my '74, also scored a drivers quality drivers side headlamp bezel, all for $150. Used the square to haul it on the trailer. Need to get a brake controller hooked up before I haul much more at all with it.

Re: What did you get done 10/10/10/10/10/10 edition

I did some real wrenching this weekend. My service tech called me and said the rear axle had shifted on our 05 Silverado. Saturday morning I got up and pulled the spring pack on the bad side to discover the center pin had sheared. I rebuilt that side and checked the drivers side to find the U bolts loose. Sheared a U bolt off taking the drivers side apart. Installed a new center pin and replaced the broken U bolt.

I was curious as to how all this came loose so I investigated. It seems that my service tech and a buddy had installed a helper spring on the truck when we first got it. Unfortunately they never came back and re-tightened the U bolts. Over time they springs worked loose and we almost had a disaster happen.

Sunday I worked in the yard for several hours, then took the family to dinner in my 77. That made the weekend worth while.

Re: What did you get done 10/10/10/10/10/10 edition

On Saturday, I was trying to change out my turn signal flasher module on my 03 Yukon, so I went to Autozone. Damn thing costs $76.99, so I decided to visit some local yards to see if I could find one out there. Didn't have any luck with that (had to pay full price for the dang thing), but I ran into a nice 83 C10 that had a tilt column in great shape. So, on Sunday I went back with all my tools and pulled the column. I brought it back home and got it all installed. Then I changed out the key lock cylinder to give it a fresh set of keys and put my old steering wheel back on there. It all turned out to be pretty easy. I was expecting something harder. My only issue now is the shift indicator on the dash. It doesn't seem to be lining up, but I could swear I saw someone post something before on how to fix that issue right up. Anyhow, here is a pic with the new tilt column installed:

I installed new radiator, hoses and belts. Did a complete tune up too. Plus removed all the emission crap from my 78. Still have to change the oil, trans fluid and filter and the rear diff oil. It amazes me how nice this truck runs and drives, it feels like a new truck. I guess I will have to get it painted too, then it will be just about new.

I have a gas can just like the one on the right. I picked it out of my Mom's neighbor's trash. My wife was so proud.

Stopped by the shop which currently has my truck, saw that they had pulled the rest of the body off and had found a new frame for me. Now they are cleaning it up and are getting ready to send it off to sandblasting.

I feel useless now since I'm letting someone else do some of the work.

Here is a pic of the frame

Took a 5 dayer for my birthday break. Dragged my S10 out of Mom's barn for the first time in 15 years. Pulled home, blew a tire an hour away from home, drove home, swapped tire, finished drive at midnight. Bought 16' of pallet racking for my barn. Levelled half the barn floor, put down Visqueen and started putting in the broken concrete. A lot of hand work along the wall. Got a new set of floor mats for the 87. Woo Hoo!
