Too bad you found the "surprises" in the pan... Better now than later I guess
What motor was in the chevelle ? I took a few blackmail photos of my daughter working and grungy that got deleted under threat of a slow and painful death. ![]()

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB
I am glad to have found the problems now as well.
My daughter wants proof that she was involved in the build. She wants to be able to tell people that she built the truck...with my help. LOL If anyone doubts her, she wants to be able to whip pictures out and prove it. Kind of an onrey little cuss ![]() ![]() The engine is a hopped up 350. Better cam, better lifters, better pistons, etc. I don't remember the specs, but it moved my Chevelle right along. |

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB
She actually is my step-daughter, but I've been around since she was 7, so she feels more like a daughter, we do more things than she does with her dad. I actually did get her a box of the gloves, but she doesn't like wearing them. Oh well. Thanks for the tip though, irish, I will take any advice I can get!!

Looking forward to see how this progresses. I'm a short stepper myself, so I love to watch how other people's come together.
![]() Awesome that your daughter is into working on this with you. I have a 7 year old son who wants to help me with mine when I start working on it, unfortunately he lives about 800 miles away.

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB
Does anyone have a way to translate the codes on the build sheet? When we were first cleaning out the truck we found most of it behind the seat, but parts of it we only have the codes, and parts only have part of the description.
Funny thing is, the truck was bought at Edmark Chevrolet (which is local, for all of you non-treasure valley members), and that is the same as ALL of the rest of my Chevy's ('97, '99, '05) and my GMC ('60). I called them, on the off chance that they still had any records, but they only keep 5 years worth. Oh well, it was a long shot. I am at work right now, but can post pictures of the build sheet when I get home. Thanks!! Last edited by chevy_man5; 10-27-2010 at 09:35 AM. |

Wow... A local truck ..
Does it have the build sheet in the glove box door? Check the FAQ section of 60-66 pages, Jonz has a sticky going with VIN numbers and codes http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=316902 Another one on build sheets http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=325054

No build sheet on the glovebox door, oh well, I saw a couple of mentions that people found them behind the gas tank also, I will check there too. I forgot to post pics of the build sheet last night, will try again tonight.

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB
Here is an overall of the Build sheet we found behind the seat.
![]() Here is a closeup of the upper right corner. ![]() Upper Middle ![]() Upper Right ![]() Lower Right ![]() Here are some random pictures of pre-demo. PO ran new wire, and added the bumper lights for taillight and turn signal, instead of fixing the existing wiring. ![]() Because the wiring harness looks like this. ![]() Dash is in pretty decent shape. ![]() ![]() PO said his Grandpa ordered the Fire Extinguisher as an option. ![]() ![]() On the build sheet, I would like to try to figure out what Color #507 is. I will try to find something on the board with paint chips. What Rad 062 and Alter KA means, and I would also like to know what Option 4507AA Light Blue is. The other options are 4STD01, 4STD20, 4STD21, 4V01AA, 4Z52A?, and 4Z53??. I know the last two probably wont have enough information, but maybe someone would know what they could be. A VIN decoding website Aerotruk has posted lots of Info here about factory options , I check the FAQ and see if color codes show up. I have seen them before , Just do not know where they are now... http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorlibrary/default.aspx Found the paint code site

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB
Well according to auto color library the truck was #507 Light Blue. That would explain option #4507AA
PO said it was Forest Service Green as long as he could remember, who knows what his Grandpa did. Thanks for the info Bubba. I couldn't get the American Classic website to do anything. I enter the vin, and hit go, it just changes to different page that looks like the first one. the same with the other links on that page. I will try it again at work in the morning, see if it is just this computer. Thanks again Bubba. I will look up Aerotruk and see what i can find. |

The light blue on the front side of the hinge pillar and on the air vent box should be the original color

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB
Looking at it in the picture it does look more bluish, but standing in front of it, even in those locations it looks like its a light green, could that be age related? I wouldn't think so, but I really don't know on that.

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB
ok I see the code on the build sheet,
c1545z c-2wd 15-1/2 ton longbed 4-pickup 5-1965 Z- freemont assembly plant. the engine code "TF" shows in my book as a 1966 250 6 cylinder maybe it got a 250 because production was so late in the 65 model year- ( 5-13-65).

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB
Thanks for the info jonz. I was able to find enough to decode the vin, but didn't know that the "TF" meant it was a 250. I was thinking it was a 230. The engine is out of the truck anyway. What book are you looking in?
I am hoping to find out what the options (with no descriptions) mean. That way I can repair it as such. The heater controls apparently stopped working, so the PO replaced it with a single toggle switch, and a small pair of vice grips one of the cables. After finding the build sheet, I see that it actually had the deluxe heater, so I can replace it that way. |

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB
that was just out of the lmc catalog.
the american classic site used to have transmission and axle codes, but I haven't been able to get it to work for the last 6 months or so...

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB
Where did you find that in the LMC catalog. I must have been overlooking it.
The 250 makes more sense with the size of the radiator as well. The core was larger than LMC said it would be for the 230, but matches the 250. Thank you again for the information!! Sorry Jonz, I found it in the LMC. It didn't say the 250 was`for the 65, so I didn't pay attention it. Last edited by chevy_man5; 11-08-2010 at 08:29 PM. |

Aerotruk63,
Do you have all of this posted on here elsewhere? You are a wealth of information!! Thank you for the Fire Extinguisher info, I thought it was a factory option, but apparently not. It is still cool to have, because it is still probably nearly as old as the truck. |

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB
We were trying to set up some kind of pictorial library of information. I think it would benefit everyone on this site if we shared original documents, rare stuff like your build sheet. We are better able to comprehend if we can see compared to what we read. I don't read that well ( mind keeps wandering ) so pictures help out a lot.

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB
It looks like that post has become mostly text. I agree with you, I like to have the option of looking at the information. I printed off the pages you posted, so i could compare them, and read through them more thoroughly. I can post my build sheet in that area tonight.
EDIT I found the build sheets section if the FAQ. I saw it before, but there isn't much there, and I had forgotten about it. I will post there tonight, and try to get it revived maybe. The one who started the post has his account suspended, and the last post is almost 2 years old, but I should be able to add to it ( I hope). Last edited by chevy_man5; 11-09-2010 at 09:39 AM.
