I think GM started using the mounts in 1965.My 65 Impala has the stop lifts on both sides.
The one on the drivers side stops the engine from rising and the one on the passenger side stops the engine from moving downwards! There are a lot of variations on these stop lifts.They made them for small blocks and big blocks,for engines with a/c and without a/c.For our trucks as well as for cars. The new interlocking mounts work but don't allow for the power steering rear bracket on a lot of models( my Impala is one!).So,it's not a cure all. I think GM used the stop lifts as a cheap(labor wise) alternative to the cost of replacing the engine mounts entirely. Mike. |

And.... the recall letter.
I had a 65 Impala SS with a 4-speed. I had a mount fail in 1967 while I was doing some "aggressive" driving. The shifter moved to the side as I hit 2nd gear. I thought what the **** was that all about. I sold the car in 1968 before the recall. My truck was recalled. I did not replace them when I when I restored it. Seriously cool history pics. Thanks for posting them! My 67 c20 still has the left side. Not connected, just hanging there, kind of like a seat belt you don't wear right before an accident. I should probably do something about that...
