Re: Rebuilding a 305 V6, worth it? Please come in!

I think those V6's are cool... My 64 GMC came with the Chevy Inline 6, when I started tearing into it I thought of building a small block... so cheap, so many parts and such an easy bolt in.... I decided to stay with the I-6. Got an HEI from Aerotruk (thanks again) a set of headers, rebuilt the carb and put a new fuel pump, and it runs like a top. Sounds cool too and should run for as long as I want it too. If it was a V6 in there, I'd keep that too. I just see so many small block V8s it gets kinda old.

You can find an ENTIRE rebuilt kit at Kanter at the links below Or you can order as needed. But over all depending on whats wrong or needed, it may be more cost effective to buy the entire kit.

http://www.kanter.com/index.aspx
$1,033.00 for basic kit or $1,510.00 for Everything.

EGGE
http://egge.com/

Order thier catalogs easy to find parts, one piece at a time or th3 whole rebuild kit.

what sort of fuel mileage could you expect to see from a bone stock 65 C10? 305, 3speed manual. I know rear gearing plays a huge part and I dont know yet what they are. Wondering if it will be cheaper to operate than my 7.5 mpg behemoth.

I got 15 1/2 Hiway with my '66 GMC 1000 pick-up with a 305E V-6, 3-Speed, stock Rear.

I bought the truck when it had 89,000 miles on it and sold it at 169,000. Engine still ran great and didn't smoke.

I also used to drive a 478 V-6. It was one great engine.

The V-6 is known for poor mileage, but I would always keep it well tuned and drove it wisely. The 15 1/2 was on a long trip soon after a fresh "super tune".

One I want to go look at is registered and driveable, so I'm assuming whatever needs to be changed to run unleaded gas was done long ago.
