chevy 350 and trans question

hey guy i just bought a good running 350 with some bolt on for 500. i have a 68 chevy truck long bed with a 250 straight six and a 4speed with granny low, anyways will the tranny bolt up to it? or what will i need? also what other stick shift tranny will bolt too it that i can use with little to n mods to get it to fit. n if i did an auto tranny whats a list of parts i would need and what tranny? and how would a Chevy Saginaw 4 speed trans work?

Re: chevy 350 and trans question

Your 250 bellhousing will bolt to the 350 with no modifications needed. If the 350 is 85 or older and did not come with a manual transmission flywheel you can use the flywheel off the 250. If it is 86 or newer you will need to get a 168 tooth flywheel for a "one-piece seal" crank.

Any 68 or newer 3 or 4 speed truck transmission will bolt to your present bellhousing without modification. You can install a 67 or older truck transmission or a 55-up car transmission if you get a spacer ring like this.
http://dennymac.com/mod.php?mod=user...103&page_id=54

The Saginaw 4 speed is a car transmission and will need the spacer ring.

Sorry, but can't help you with the automatic as all my trucks have manual transmissions.

Re: chevy 350 and trans question

you will need a cherry picker....
as mentioned above, it will pretty much bolt right in. your fuel lines and radiator hoses will be different, your fan shroud might not work, but the mounts and trans are pretty much the same. wiring is pretty much the same, once again depending on the year of the donor

You can determine the year from the casting date. This will be on the top rear of the block behind the intake manifold. It will be in the form of a letter (A through L) for the month followed by 2, 3, or 4 numbers. The last 1 or 2 numbers will give you the year. You will find a similar casting date on the heads if you want to take off the valve covers.

Re: chevy 350 and trans question

I did a bit of hunting and found this . A page worth saving. http://www.v8extremo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=168

Looks like the block is from a 92 Target (GM fleet replacement) motor originally.

The info says it is an early style block with a two piece seal. The heads probably came with the block and match up too but you will need the casting numbers to figure that out.

The Goodwrench 350s are 4 bolt main engines.

Sure. It's a brand new 350 built by the General. Good stuff.

Re: chevy 350 and trans question

put the v8 where the I6 was. you'll need to change the Z bar set up, as it's different from I6 to V8.

another tip for you..on the top right hand side of this page there's a "Search" button. You can get most of ur questions answered by doing a search..AKA: z bar, I6 to V8(350) swap ect..

Give it a try, it works great. Good luck!
