Re: To paint or Maco the ugly truck?
I had a Maxima painted a Earl Schib and after taking it back because the paint was thin, I was somewhat satisfied. I had other cars painted at 1day and Macco, which in my opinion, both are equal.
If your going to do it yourself, go with the DupliColor paint kit at Kragen, etc etc. You never know, you might come out with a killer paint job. |

Re: To paint or Maco the ugly truck?
I like the look of it. Its got a old work truck that just will never quit on you look. Id just start preping it myself and slowly fixing the rust spots and things like that an leave it as it. When your wife and pastors cars break you can tow them home with your truck old chevys never die

Re: To paint or Maco the ugly truck?
What I would do is remove all the items I could on the exterior such as mirros, wipers, grill, bumpers, all lights and such that way you dont have alot of overspray from them painting it. Prep the truck as much as you can and you should have a decent paint job. Here is a picture of my sons truck that I painted myself. Need anymore info just let me know..............

Re: To paint or Maco the ugly truck?
On my previous truck, I took off the bumpers and stuff that I could then had a quicky Exterior white paint job done at Maaco.... white hides a lot of imperfections. It'll make it passable until you can do more. I rattled can painted the inside (and jams) satin black. It hid a lot of things too.
Good luck |

But seriously, Get it down to the metal in the rusty spots, Treat it with phoscoat or something. Shoot some primer over the spots. Pull all your trim, You might even get a better price, For doing the prep. Really, All you want them to do, Is scuff and shoot. So if you want any body work done, Nows the time. Spike

Re: To paint or Maco the ugly truck?
I'd agree with the guys in that if you do the prep and body work and have it pretty well ready to go in the paint booth they can turn out a pretty decent job. Just wheeling up with it in it's present condition might not get the greatest results though.
If you ask around locally there is almost always "that guy" in every area that will shoot a car or truck for a friendly price if you do all the body and prep work and buy the materials. That may end up being quite a bit more than going to Maaco in the long run though. Last edited by mr48chev; 01-03-2011 at 10:54 AM. |

Re: To paint or Maco the ugly truck?
I don't care if the body is perfect, I just want one color.
Should I have the bed lose and strapped down when I get there?
