Cool build so far. I too was curious about those brake kits fitting behind a 15" wheel. I have no desire to run any bigger of a wheel, so it's good to know they fit. Love the look and direction you are taking the truck.

Re: Stealth_Weapons 63 project

ok. so it has been a while since i have updated anything. mainly since i havent done anything other than drive it. here is what i started today until the rain started and halted any progress. keep in mind i am doing this without a torch, welder, or air tools, that's right hand tools only (not by choice btw).
on to the pics;

here is how it all "dropped out"

Thanks for the comment. i was kinda worried about them not fitting also. but i have plans to run a 20" wheel. probably along the KMC Slide or Brodie style

Re: Stealth_Weapons 63 project

so today was spent mostly cleaning and ten cleaning and then some cleaning. i got the passenger side up and realized that my shocks won't work (pending having a bushing removed) and i dont have have the correct size allen stock for the brake caliper. i also couldnt get the idler arm bushing out.... i will reattempt this tomorrow. anyway on to the pics;

here is the pile of crap i cleaned off the cross member.

and what it looks like after some undercoating(keep in mind this is temporary until i can do a frame off)

and all bolted up except for the tie rods and shocks

and with the tie rod

spare parts anyone??

Re: Stealth_Weapons 63 project

during the install i did realize that POL shorted me a set of grease fitting for my UCA. And FYI not included in the kit are bumpstops. I left my cotter pin taped to the UCA because everything isnt torqued down yet.

Re: Stealth_Weapons 63 project

i have the driver's side on and got the booster mounted. so far the install is very simple (as long as you have the right tools)
without having bumpstops i have to improvise to keep the suspension from sagging

here is the booster mounted up

Re: Stealth_Weapons 63 project

Looking good!! Isn't it amazing how much grease and dirt accumulate in half a century.
I used a Lot of the rust-oleum undercoating spray. It has held up very well in the 2 years since my front end upgrade!!
It did sun fade a little on the exposed sections of the rear frame rails while I had the bed off and things were sitting in the 100* sun every day.
No issues or break downs of protection, I just added another coat just before the bed went back on.

Re: Stealth_Weapons 63 project

so i finally got the brakes done on the truck!! during the process i identified and replaced a broken fuel hose (from cab to frame) i found a union that had a hairline crack in it (that will apparently keep the MC from bleeding) and had an all around fun time!

all in all it wasnt terrible, i did this all by myself except for the bleeeding and adjusting of the rear drums.
the rear drum rebuild kit was great and had everything in it i needed (wheel cylinders,springs,retainers, etc..)
the front was more of a PITA- the UCA/LCAs were a little bit of a pain cause they are heavy and the springs i have didnt want to settle right making things difficult.
the tie rods inner/outer were simple. the idler arm was simple after i seperated the balljoint. the spindles are a striaght bolt in. the disc brakes look great and packing the bearings is pretty much all that is required.

so now all that is left is an alignment (tomorrow hopefully), sway bar, and pitman arm.
i will post pics later. the nose is way down on this thing but i like it!

Re: Stealth_Weapons 63 project

a couple aftermath pics;

left wheel tuck

right wheel tuck

underneath

a few new LMC add ons that my son helped with

i am unsure about the drop down mirrors i kinda like them but the lack of chrome on the truck kinda makes them look bad

Re: Stealth_Weapons 63 project

so i am back from the alignment shop. as per the instructions i reinstalled all the shims from the factory set up over to the new stuff. needless to say the aligmnet was waaaaaay off. we ended up removing all but maybe 2 of the shims from the whole front end. the result was an almost perfect alignment. it did take about 2 1/2 hours to accomplish but i am highly satisfied! it drives straight and true.
