Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
I've been asking around on a few different boards about how the gauge clusters work in the newer, 88-98 trucks. I would like to do a dash similar to this, but use a 95-? cluster as the back.
Its sounding doable. I found a 96 diesel cluster from a guy here for $50. |

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
I got started on my rear mounts. I made them out of the same 3 1/2" square tube that I made the fronts. The rearend is 40" between spring perch centers, so I used some scrap flat bar, and made a jig that holds the mounts level and the right width apart. That way I can square and level the whole thing as one unit.
Once I got them clamped where I wanted them, I started building the hangers. I still need to make a few more braces, and final weld everything, and I want to take a few more measurements so the truck doesn't crab walk on me. |

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
I got my rear shackle mounts built this weekend. I got a little picture happy so bear with me First I cut and squared 2 pieces of 1 1/2" sch 80 for the hangars. I laid them in a piece of angle iron to keep them straight, and welded a smaller piece of tube inside them to keep them there.
I cut two pieces of 3"x3"x1/4" for the mounts 6" long and bolted them on the frame. Then I tacked the tube with the shackle mounts up where it needed to go. Then I started tacking the support braces on. Once I got the 2 supports on and everything was stable, I was able to take the jig apart, and finish weld everything. I think they turned out pretty good Last edited by woodwright; 03-15-2011 at 02:43 AM. |

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
I have made some progress, but the wife had a class in seattle and she took the computer. If she gets home early enough tonight I'll. Post up some more pics.

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
I got my rear springs rebushed and mounted.
I set the frame down on my old running gear, and the motor and tranny in place and threw the cab and fenders on. the tires are 245/70-16. I think with 33"s it'll look good. |

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
Got a new little wrinkle. I found out the other day that the flywheels for the 6.2's and the 6.5's are different. My flywheel and clutch is from a 6.2. So now I'm on the hunt for another flywheel.

Of course you know you if you cant find a flywheel, you can always find a Cummins!

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
I pushed the truck out again to make room for my parts truck so I could pull my 6.5 out. The driveway's a little muddy so I hooked onto it with our durango and had the wife pull it out of the way. I remembered too late that the axles weren't bolted to the springs.
I dragged my cherry picker out in the mud and got everything back where it was supposed to be. So far, I haven't found any damage except my ego. |

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
Work has kept me either busy, or exhausted, but I finally got my 6.5 out of my 93. By far the biggest pain in the ass to get that out.
I built a platform to reach the back of the motor. works good if you need to be that way for a while. Now I just need to figure out which sensors and wires I need, and then I can get the 93 out of here. Anybody know if you can convert the newer style ac pumps to an on board air compressor? I also need a layout of the wiring and sensors for a 93 K2500. Last edited by woodwright; 04-18-2011 at 03:42 AM. |

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
Makin progress slowly. I'm trying to get the frame finished so I can clean and paint it. I needed to clearance a couple of crossmembers for the 4" exhaust, and patch a few holes. I'll post some pics soon.

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
I'm pretty sure they are the stock rims that came on my 70 k10. Do you want them? I'm not gonna use them.

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
Finally got the frame done, cleaned, and started painting. I'm useing napas version of por-15.
A while back I borrowed a 33" and bolted it on to see how it looked. I'm gonna have to run 35's I think. While the frame was upside down I built my rear shockmount crossmember. I'll get some pics soon of the painted frame. |
