Re: Tint or no tint???
Your allowed to have your tint five inches from the top of the windshield down. Up north here it can be any darker then 15% but me and my buddies have 5% on everything we drive. Just roll down you windows if you see the cops!

Re: Tint or no tint???
I like the green or blue glass GM cars with AC had in the late 60s....
Go with the red tint...that was popular in the 70s, right? |

Re: Tint or no tint???
Depends on what the truck is to be used for. For the O.P. and others in the south, tint on Daily Drivers would be a good thing. I can't have it on my '87 plow truck. For those that have ever plowed snow in a winter storm with 100 percent humidity, inside fog just kills you. It's hard enough to see without the reduced visibility.
I do like tint on my weekend warriors though. Thanks also to you guys for taking me back to the 70's in my Dad's 74 Trans Am with a cb/pa. He used to drive though campus and I'd wistle and comment on every blonde I saw walking down the sidewalk. Funny how I ended up being more attracted to brunettes..

Re: Tint or no tint???
More pics of tint IMO! (preferably on red trucks)
I have been debating this on my 78 K30 Every other vehicle I have ever had has had 20% tint, makes a huge difference in looks and keeping the cab cool, but I kinda like the "fishbowl" look on my 78. I am not convinced it would look right with tint. I'm considering 35% or 20% all around and maybe 50% on the shield. I've never been hassled with any of my other trucks, and next year it will no longer need to be inspected anyway.

Re: Tint or no tint???
I put 15 percent all the way around on my daily drivers, with a 8in strip in the front. I just try to double whatever is legal. I think legal is 28% or 30% so I go 15 and the front strip isnt suposed to be over 4in so I go 8. And on my play toys I got 5% all the way with the whole front window tinted 20% with a 8in 5% strip at the top. I dont like the feelin of people watching me. Feels like I am in a aquarium.

Re: Tint or no tint???
Looks good, I hate the strips personally, but it seems popular down in SC from what I've seen.

Re: Tint or no tint???
I love the low tint stripe on the front windshield i can sit up and it blocks the "white" head lights,or low sun
Up here i believe the legal front/beside driver is 35% behind the driver 5% Had my 81 lemans tinted too 35 front 5 back

Re: Tint or no tint???
I love the giant open bright cabs of these older trucks, why darken it up?
Then again, I lived in Orange County, it gets a little hotter here in Texas so I may end up putting tint on... I just don't want to because it sucked so much taking the old purple tint off! Truck looked like CR** with purple windows! (and it was the previous owner that was an idiot and used ammonio? on to wash tinted windows!)

Re: Tint or no tint???
It depends on your use. For a daily driver I put legal tint all around. For my cruiser, I want to show off the interior.

Re: Tint or no tint???
I put tint on everything I drive. It keeps the interior cooler, keeps it from cracking near as much, and you don't get sunburned on your left arm on long drives.
I've had as dark as 2% on a couple of cars, but I like 35% or so on a truck, IF I'm going to use it as a truck. For more visibility for trailering and backing up in the dark. This is 35%, and the windshield built in strip was dark enough I didn't put anything on it. Last edited by 78 Chevyrado; 02-18-2011 at 02:24 PM. |

I'm all for the fish bowl. The first thing I did when I got my truck was remove the tint.

Re: Tint or no tint???
My problem with stick on window tint is the reflection you get at night back at you from the inside surface of the windows. I try to get factory dark window tint when I buy new vehicles. My new Equinox only has light tint and I really miss the dark tint and the electrochromic rear view mirror on the more expensive models. I might upgrade to an electrochromic mirrior someday in the old square.
